About the Role
The Major Projects team operates under our Growth and Sustainability Business Group, developing and delivering projects across decarbonisation, sustainability, greenfield mining, complex site operations and non‑core opportunities. Reporting to the General Manager – Major Projects, you will manage the development of a diverse pipeline of select projects that support our sustainability and growth goals and contribute to Stanmore's long‑term growth strategy. Projects will range in value from low‑cost operational initiatives to complex, multi‑disciplinary greenfield projects exceeding $200M.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development
- Lead the development of select projects across a diverse range of disciplines, including surface infrastructure, new and existing mine extensions, coal mine fugitive gas utilisation, gas‑fired power generation, renewable energy opportunities, and site decarbonisation initiatives.
- Establish and manage a prioritised project pipeline aligned with strategic business objectives.
- Progress projects through concept, pre‑feasibility, feasibility,
investment decision and execution phases.
- Initiate and coordinate technical, environmental, commercial and regulatory studies required to optimise project outcomes.
- Prepare project scopes, schedules, development plans and business cases for executive and Board approval.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with site operations to ensure project alignment with operational requirements.
- Work closely with approvals and environmental teams to secure necessary permits and licences.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, service providers, joint‑venture participants and government agencies.
- Represent Stanmore in discussions with regulators and key external stakeholders.
- Lead engagement activities with landholders and communities where required.
Commercial & Financial Leadership
- Develop project CAPEX and OPEX estimates.
- Lead financial modelling and commercial assessment of development opportunities.
- Identify and pursue government funding opportunities, grants and incentives.
- Support commercial negotiations, partnership arrangements, joint ventures and off‑take agreements.
- Assess opportunities relating to environmental offsets, offset banking and Safeguard Mechanism Credit generation.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure projects progress in line with applicable regulatory requirements and company governance standards.
- Coordinate approvals and compliance activities across multiple jurisdictions and stakeholders.
- Maintain robust project documentation, approvals records and commercial agreements.
About You
- 15+ years' experience in project development, project management or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience within the resources, energy, infrastructure or related sectors.
- Exposure to gas, power generation, renewable energy, land development, environmental offsets or decarbonisation projects will be highly regarded.
- Ability to establish and manage design and technical studies as well as the project development and execution lifecycle across multiple disciplines.
- Robust stakeholder engagement and approvals management experience.
- Well‑developed commercial and financial acumen, including business case development and project evaluation.
- Experience engaging with government agencies, regulators and external partners.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands‑on in project delivery.
- Degree qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline, or equivalent operational and technical experience.
