About Amber
Amber is an entirely different way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real‑time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 minutes, and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It is a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.
Amber is a category leader in Australia for home battery automation and is growing rapidly with over 80k customers. We have also expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in Europe. Amber is backed by top Australian and international investors including Square Peg, Main Sequence, Breakthrough Victoria, Commonwealth Bank, NRMA, Gentrack, ETF Partners (UK/Europe based), and E.ON Next. We are scaling rapidly and would like you to join a team of over 200 committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and purpose‑driven culture.
About the Role
We need a Director of Product to join Amber's executive team and lead product, reporting directly to CEO Chris Thompson. The role involves shaping Amber's core product offering as we move from one market to many and from one brand to a platform that powers utilities around the world. The person will help shape product vision, hold the line on it, and execute with alignment, systems and people.
The Amber Product Team Develops and Supports
- Home automation integrations (solar, batteries, and EVs, with V2G coming soon) that control electricity usage in response to pricing and renewable availability
- Mobile & Web apps for customers to monitor and manage their energy usage
- A pricing and billing engine for real‑time energy pricing
- The marketing site and associated tools to drive customer growth
- Our licensed technology platform,
powering a growing number of utility partners across Europe and beyond
Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years experience as a senior product leader managing PMs while reporting into the executive team, or as a manager‑of‑managers in a product function
- 5+ years of relevant commercial product experience across consumer technology, marketplace, or platform products at a similar growth stage (Series B/C and beyond)
- Proven ability to set product strategy and communicate it clearly across an organisation, not just to the product team
- A track record of raising the quality of product management around you, through hiring, coaching, or the systems you've put in place
- Experience building products that operate across multiple markets, brands, or customer segments is a strong plus
Responsibilities
- Own the direction, goals, and quality of Amber's core product — pricing, devices, and core customer experiences — and manage the PMs, structure and organisation within it
- Shape the core product to serve a growing number of retail and utility partners around the world, not just Amber's own brand
- Define and maintain Amber's product vision and strategy
- Align product, design and engineering priorities and ways of working
- Mature our product practices: road‑mapping, discovery, goal‑setting, to match scale and growing ambition
- Continue to build a product culture of clarity, accountability, and craft
Salary
$220,000 – $260,000 per year, excluding superannuation. All salaried roles at Amber include employee stock options over and above the base salary and superannuation.
Equal Employment Prospect
Even if you don't meet 100% of the requirements listed above, we still encourage you to apply. We are open to all backgrounds and encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply. We never discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability status.
