Vestas Australia is offering an outstanding chance for an experienced Power Systems Engineer. The Vestas APAC Power Systems Performance Analysis team is dedicated to coordinating, managing, and conducting in‑depth power systems analysis related to the grid connection aspects of wind power plant projects. This spans the complete lifecycle of these projects – from sales, through construction, to service – and ensures plant performance meets respective grid code requirements.

Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate a small group of power systems engineers on multiple projects to undertake power system studies that define wind farm generator performance standards.
- Support the Head of Power Systems Performance Analysis in resource management, resolving technical queries escalated by team members, addressing customer queries, and coordinating with internal stakeholders.
- Take the lead in developing the wind farm control system functional design specification and reactive power plant requirements.
- Lead and undertake modeling and simulation of wind and hybrid power plants, including PV and battery energy storage.
- Lead, review and assess the performance, efficiency, and reliability of balance‑of‑plant systems specific to renewable energy projects.
- Identify and resolve issues and inefficiencies within the balance‑of‑plant systems through problem diagnosis, root‑cause analysis, and coordination with other teams.
- Review balance‑of‑plant (BoP) design, drawings and documents submitted by subcontractors against industry best practice, law, international and local standards, and Vestas' contractual and interfacing requirements from a grid‑connection perspective.
- Lead and manage the grid‑connection deliverables required by Vestas,
ensuring they are delivered on time, safely and with high quality.
- Prepare project‑specific work/delivery plans and schedules within PSPA scope, and hold project progress meetings with the PSPA project team.
- Attend network service provider / independent system operator meetings to present power system study results and discuss issues.
Additional Lead Responsibilities
- Engage and manage external consultants when required.
- Coordinate and lead investigations with team members regarding inquiries about wind farm technical performance, and prepare formal responses.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to customers.
- Attend and provide input to safety, design, technical and risk meetings, workshops and reviews.
- Pioneer and lead process improvement initiatives.
- Gain and master Vestas product‑specific knowledge and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and document all grid‑connection activities, milestones and outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree specializing in power systems with a minimum of 10+ years industry experience, or
- PhD in power systems or power electronics with a minimum of 6+ years industry experience.
Competencies
- Expert user of PSCAD, PSS/E and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Basic level experience with small‑signal analysis tools such as SSAT is advantageous.
- Expert level developer and user of Python automation scripts for power systems analysis tools.
- Proven experience mentoring and developing less experienced team members.
- Able to understand and interpret complex grid code requirements.
- Track record in power systems modelling and analysis,
with expert knowledge in hybrid plant analysis, weak grid analysis, or system strength impact assessment.
- Product knowledge of STATCOMs, synchronous condensers, SVCs, HVDC system design and control, BESS systems (with grid‑forming technology) is advantageous.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and solve problems.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Experience in wind and/or other renewable industries is preferred.
