The Position

The ANU Nuclear Structure Group is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Fellow to join our experimental research program based at the Australian Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility. The successful candidate will contribute to our ongoing investigations into single-particle and collective properties of atomic nuclei. They will have the opportunity to conduct high-quality research relating to existing contracts held by Dr AJ Mitchell and Prof Greg Lane, collaborating with Em/Prof Andrew Stuchbery and Em/Prof Tibor Kibedi and supporting our team of postgraduate and undergraduate researchers.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to all aspects of our research, including experiment planning, operation, data analysis, preparation of research publications and delivering conference presentations. They will also be responsible for day-to-day maintenance and ongoing development of our research infrastructure, with particular focus on nuclear spectroscopy with the Enge Magnetic Spectrometer and the CAESAR array of HPGe/LaBr 3 detectors. The successful candidate will also contribute to our coursework-based education programs in nuclear science, and be encouraged to engage in the broader activities of the Department, School and College if these are aligned with their own personal interests.

The Person

To excel in this role, you will be a motivated experimental nuclear physicist with:

- A PhD (or awarding of a PhD within six months of appointment commencement if seeking appointment at Level A) in nuclear physics or a closely related field





- Demonstrated expertise for innovative experimental research the field of nuclear-structure physics with nucleon-transfer reactions and/or Coulomb excitation with a focus on experimental tests of the nuclear shell model and/or collective properties of atomic nuclei. Experience in performing experiments with charged-particle spectroscopy using magnetic spectrometers and/or gamma-ray using HPGe-detector arrays with auxiliary particle-detector systems would be a distinct advantage.
- A keen interest in education and training through supporting student research projects and laboratory components of nuclear coursework courses.
- A strong motivation to work with a collaborative team to achieve project goals and deadlines.

- Demonstrated ability to foster respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environments.
