The Automotive Air Conditioning Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, servicing, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining automotive air conditioning and climate control systems. The role requires a high standard of workmanship, excellent customer service, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team while maintaining a protected and efficient workplace.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Vehicle Servicing and Repairs
- Service, inspect and repair automotive air conditioning systems.
- Diagnose faults using specialised diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
- Recover, evacuate and recharge refrigerant in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Replace compressors, condensers, evaporators, hoses, TX valves, receivers/driers and other air conditioning components.
- Repair or replace worn, damaged or defective mechanical and electrical components.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance and preventative servicing.
- Perform leak detection and pressure testing.
- Conduct system performance testing following repairs.
- Complete vehicle inspections and report additional work required.
- Assist with general mechanical repairs where required.
Workshop Operations
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop and yard.
- Keep tools and equipment clean, serviced and in good working order.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
- Ensure environmental compliance when handling refrigerants and waste products.
- Assist in maintaining workshop efficiency and productivity.
Parts and Stock Control
- Receive and inspect incoming stock.
- Maintain accurate stock levels.
- Identify and order replacement parts as required.
- Ensure parts are correctly labelled and stored.
- Report stock shortages to management.
Customer Service
- Explain repairs and servicing requirements to customers professionally.
- Collect and deliver customer vehicles where authorised.
- Pick up parts and supplies from suppliers.
- Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude when representing the business.
Administration
- Complete job cards accurately.
- Record refrigerant usage as required.
- Maintain service records.
- Report completed work and any outstanding issues to the Workshop Foreman or Manager.
- Assist with warranty documentation where required.
General Duties
- Work efficiently to meet scheduled completion times.
- Assist other team members when required.
- Participate in ongoing training and development.
- Carry out any reasonable work‑related duties as directed by management.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain confidentiality of customer information.
- Treat customers, suppliers and fellow employees respectfully.
- Present themselves professionally at all times.
- Protect company tools, equipment and property.
- Report hazards, incidents and near misses immediately.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and cleanliness.

Qualifications (Preferred)
- Certificate III in Automotive Air Conditioning Technology or equivalent.
- Refrigerant Handling Licence (ARCtick Refrigerant Handling Licence).
- Current Manual Driver's Licence.
- Construction White Card (desirable).
- First Aid Certificate (desirable).
- Forklift Licence (desirable but not essential).
Work Environment
Pay: $60,314.78 - $118,853.94 per year
