Full-Time | Afternoon Shift | Immediate Start

Direct Steel Traders is looking for an experienced Team Leader / 2IC to join our warehouse team.

This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys leading by example, working in a fast-paced environment, and supporting the day-to-day operation of a busy steel distribution warehouse.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll be working alongside the team every day, not behind a desk. As the Afternoon Shift Team Leader / 2IC, you'll lead by example while supporting the Warehouse Supervisors in the day-to-day operation of our steel distribution warehouse. You'll follow the direction and leadership of the Supervisors, while taking ownership of the afternoon shift by setting the standard for safety, productivity and teamwork on the warehouse floor.

Your primary responsibilities will include picking customer orders, loading and unloading trucks, operating forklifts and overhead cranes, and coordinating the afternoon shift to ensure orders are prepared accurately and dispatched on time.

This role is suited to someone who enjoys being involved in the day-to-day operation while also taking responsibility for the performance, safety and productivity of the team.

The standard hours are Monday to Friday, 3:00pm – 11:00pm, however flexibility is essential.

The successful applicant must be willing to:

- Start earlier or finish later when operational requirements require.
- Step into the Warehouse Supervisor role during periods of leave.
- Support the Supervisors by ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Lead by example, maintaining a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Assist with planning workloads and coordinating the afternoon shift.




- Ensure trucks are loaded safely and efficiently.
- Support, mentor and motivate warehouse staff while helping maintain a positive team culture.

About You

We're looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience in a Team Leader, Leading Hand or 2IC role (essential).
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- The ability to motivate a team while maintaining a positive culture.
- Experience working in a warehouse, manufacturing, steel, timber, building supplies or similar industrial environment.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills.

Essential Requirements

- Current Forklift Licence.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding warehouse workplace.
- Reliable with a strong work ethic.
- First aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one with the first 2 weeks of starting)

Highly Regarded

- Experience within the steel industry (preferred but not essential).
- Experience operating overhead cranes.
- HR or HC Truck Licence.
- Experience with steel products, loading and unloading trucks, or similar heavy materials handling.

Hourly Rate- $38ph (inclusive of afternoon loading) 6 month probation period will apply.
