Full-Time Home Lead – East Maitland
Drive Culture, Implement Active Support, and Build Site Stability Are you an experienced, resilient disability leader who thrives on the floor working directly with participants, loves a challenge, and knows how to lead by example?
Songbird is looking for a hands-on Home Lead to take ownership of our dynamic East Maitland homes. This is a role for someone who isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves, model best practice in complex behaviour support, and lead a dedicated team to deliver real stability and outcomes for our participants.
What the Role Really Looks Like
This isn't a role spent sitting behind a desk all day. We believe the best leadership happens on the floor alongside your team and participants.
- Hands-on Leadership (approx. 70/30 split): You’ll spend the majority of your time on the floor providing active participant support, modeling best-practice strategies for your team, and managing day-to-day site flow, with dedicated off-floor admin time for roster management in conjunction with our established rostering team, compliance, and reporting.
- Complex Behaviour & Medical Support: Our East Maitland site supports participants with active Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), complex mental health needs, and daily medical requirements. You'll lead response strategies, drive consistency, and ensure a safe, supportive home environment.
- Team Building & Culture: You will mentor, debrief, and support a team navigating complex participant needs, creating a calm, cohesive, and resilient workplace culture.
- Collaborative stakeholder management: Work collaboratively with your service delivery manager to build trusted,
transparent relationships with participants' families, Allied health practitioners & Support coordinators.
Who You Are
We are looking for a practical, level-headed leader who can steady the ship, set explicit standards, and bring positive energy to the team.
- A Grounded Leader: You lead from the front. You don't just instruct—you demonstrate how to manage complex behaviours and high-support scenarios calmly and effectively.
- Resilient & Solution-Focused: Complex sites come with unpredictable days. You stay calm under pressure, debrief effectively with your team, and focus on practical solutions.
- An Outstanding Communicator: You can build trust with participants, maintain transparent communication with families/stakeholders, and keep your support team aligned and motivated.
Must-Have Requirements
- Qualifications: Cert III or higher in Disability, Individual Support, or Aged Care (or 2nd-year student in a relevant field).
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years in Disability/Care, with proven experience in high-intensity behaviour support (BSP implementation), restrictive practices, and mental health.
- Mandatory Checks: NDIS Worker Screening Check, Current First Aid & CPR, and Valid Australian Driver’s Licence (Provisional Red minimum).
Why Join Songbird?
- Real Impact: Step into a site where your leadership will directly transform site culture and quality of care.
- A Supportive Environment: Work alongside an accessible Service Delivery Manager who provides ongoing operational support, debriefing, and guidance for your site.
- Competitive Perks: Career progression across a growing Hunter with a supportive culture.
