About the team and role
Maurice Blackburn has a bold ambition to redefine the way legal services are delivered in Australia, reimagining what justice means in a modern, digital and inclusive society. To deliver on this ambition, we established The Foundry to drive transformation through new business models, new partnerships and new capabilities.
Help us power smarter, faster, fairer outcomes by designing the integration fabric that connects agentic AI with our platforms and partners. As our Principal Engineer, you’ll set the engineering bar, ship production ready services, so the tools we build can make a real difference for the clients we serve.
You’ll lead how we engineer and operationalise agentic AI, creating robust patterns, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies and observability that make experimentation secure and deployment repeatable. You’ll be hands on, solving interesting problems, mentoring engineers, and turning emerging ideas into working, scalable services.
You’ll report to the Head of Engineering – The Foundry, partner closely with our Digital & Technology team, and collaborate with external vendors. Expect autonomy, high trust, and a firm that backs smart engineering with clear purpose.
What you’ll do
- Set standards & architecture: Define best practice patterns for integrating agentic AI with internal platforms and third‑party services; publish reference designs that accelerate delivery.
- Build the pipelines: Design CI/CD and test frameworks fit for AI workflows, including approaches for non‑deterministic outputs, plus monitoring and alerting in production.
- Lead by doing:
Unblock complex technical issues, review code, and contribute directly to services built in Python and TypeScript.
- Advocate for emerging tech: Stay active in industry communities and share learnings that lift capability across The Foundry and the broader business.
What you’ll bring
- A problem solver’s mindset and the autonomy to debug complex systems end to end.
- Strong hands‑on engineering, with significant experience in building production grade services in Python and/or TypeScript.
- Practical experience designing CI/CD pipelines, automation testing, API design, system integration, and cloud native development.
- An ability to mentor, influence and communicate, bridging technical depth with business pragmatism.
- Curiosity for AI/ML and the agentic AI landscape; you’re a continuous learner who engages with technical communities.
