Packaging artwork with flexibility and real ownership
Slipstick is looking for an experienced Packaging & Production Artwork Designer to join our production team on a permanent part time basis.
This is a practical, detail-focused role working across Photoshop image preparation, retail packaging, print-ready artwork, product photography, instructions and online product imagery.
Slipstick develops and sells furniture protection, floor protection, anti-slip and related consumer products through major retailers and online marketplaces in Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe.
About the role
Much of our packaging already has established templates, branding and layouts. Your role will involve accurately updating, adapting and preparing artwork for different products, retailers, packaging suppliers and international markets.
Advanced practical Photoshop capability is particularly important. You will regularly prepare, retouch and manage product images for packaging, websites, Amazon and other online marketplaces.
During an initial structured transition, you will work alongside our experienced long-term designer, who will train you in Slipstick’s products, packaging templates, artwork files and print-production requirements.
Over time, we want the successful person to develop detailed knowledge of our product range and take ownership of Slipstick’s day-to-day artwork and production files.
Hours and flexibility
This is a permanent part-time position for 24 hours per week, ideally worked as four six-hour days.
There is some flexibility around the particular weekdays and starting and finishing times, and a school-hours arrangement may suit the role well.
The position will initially be based onsite at our Clayton South premises so you can work directly with our designer and production team during the transition.
Some remote work may be considered later,
once you are fully trained and able to manage the work independently.
Key responsibilities
- Editing, retouching, masking, clipping and colour-correcting product images in Adobe Photoshop.
- Preparing product images for packaging, websites, Amazon and other online marketplaces.
- Photographing Slipstick products and preparing clean, accurate product images.
- Preparing and updating retail packaging artwork.
- Working from established Adobe Illustrator templates and packaging dielines.
- Creating accurate, print-ready artwork for packaging suppliers and printers.
- Adapting packaging for different products, retailers and international markets.
- Preparing product instructions, information sheets and sales material.
- Checking copy, dimensions, barcodes, product details and technical information.
- Managing fonts, linked images, layers, artwork files and version control.
- Liaising with Slipstick staff, our designer, packaging suppliers and printers.
- Completing quality-control checks before artwork is released for production.
About you
You may be an experienced finished artist, production artwork specialist, packaging artwork designer or graphic designer with strong production and prepress capability.
The position may particularly suit an experienced designer returning to the workforce or seeking secure, adaptable part-time employment.
You will enjoy detailed, practical artwork and take pride in producing accurate files that are properly prepared for printing and production.
Essential skills and experience
- Advanced practical Adobe Photoshop skills.
- Strong Adobe Illustrator skills.
- Demonstrated experience preparing production-ready or print-ready artwork.
- Experience working with templates, dielines, layers, linked files, fonts and supplied artwork assets.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong file-management and organisational skills.
- Ability to accurately check copy, dimensions and technical information.
- Ability to follow established branding, templates and production processes.
- Clear communication and willingness to ask questions when needed.
- Reliability and the ability to progressively work independently.
- Availability to work onsite during the initial training period.
- Unrestricted Australian working rights.
Desirable experience
- Retail or consumer-product packaging.
- Finished artwork, prepress or printing.
- Product photography.
- Image retouching and colour correction.
- International or multilingual packaging.
- Amazon or e-commerce product imagery.
- Mac-based design environments.
Previous product-photography experience is not essential, as training can be provided.
Working with Slipstick
You will report to Slipstick’s Managing Director as part of our production team.
During the initial transition, you will work closely with and be trained by our experienced long-term designer. Day-to-day artwork and packaging priorities will also be coordinated with our Procurement and Production Manager.
Slipstick will provide a Mac workstation together with the software and equipment required for the role.
This is meaningful, ongoing work within an established business. It is not a temporary project or short-term handover role.
