About the role
McArthur is seeking Academic Support Workers to join our casual rostering pool, supporting students with additional accessibility requirements across tertiary education settings.
This is a practical, student-centred role where you may support students during lectures, tutorials, practical classes and lab-based activities. You will help students stay engaged with learning activities, support effective communication in class, assist with access to learning materials, and provide clear and accurate notes where required.
The role is casual and shift-based, with work primarily located across the western suburbs of Melbourne. Shifts may vary from week to week, so this opportunity will suit someone who is reliable, flexible and comfortable working in different class environments.
What you may be doing
- Supporting students to participate in lectures, tutorials, practical activities and classroom-based learning
- Helping students remain focused on class activities, learning materials and instructions
- Repeating or clarifying information in a practical, supportive way while staying within the boundaries of the role
- Assisting students to frame questions or communicate appropriately with teaching staff
- Providing explicit, accurate and well‑organised notes from lectures or tutorials
- Using a laptop and Microsoft Office tools to record, format and share information accurately
- Adapting notes or learning materials to suit individual student access needs
- Communicating promptly with McArthur if class times, rooms or student support needs change
- Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism and respectful boundaries at all times
About you
- You are reliable, punctual and comfortable working in casual, shift-based roles
- You communicate clearly and respectfully with students, teaching staff and McArthur consultants
- You are patient, practical and confident supporting people with different learning or accessibility needs
- You can stay organised in busy classroom environments and manage competing information
- You have strong written English, attention to detail and the ability to capture information accurately
- You are confident using a laptop and common office software such as Word, Outlook and Excel
- You understand the importance of supporting participation without taking over or completing academic work for the student
- You may be studying or have completed some level of tertiary education
- Access to a reliable laptop that you can bring to class
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Current Employee Working With Children Check or VIT Registration
- Ability to meet relevant pre‑employment compliance requirements, including police check requirements
- Make a genuine difference to students who may experience barriers in education
- Gain valuable experience in tertiary education, accessibility support and inclusive learning environments
- Enjoy casual flexibility while building practical, people‑focused experience
- Receive weekly pay and support from an experienced Human Services team
- Work with a trusted staffing provider partnered with organisations across education, community services and other socially impactful sectors
