Hands-on Head of Finance role with broad operational and commercial exposure

Our client is an established, privately owned property developer and investor with an impressive track record of delivering successful projects across Australia.

Based in Sydney's CBD, the business has built a strong reputation within the property sector and offers a collaborative, professional environment where finance plays a genuine role in shaping outcomes. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll become a trusted adviser and member of the leadership team, working alongside a group of experienced professionals.

This is a business with a professional culture that values collaboration and works from their centrally located CBD-based office five days a week.

The Role

As Head of Finance, you will lead all aspects of the finance function while managing a small accounting team of 3 staff. This is a broad, hands-on and commercial position that combines leadership with operational finance responsibility.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading the finance function, including financial reporting, compliance, audit, tax and treasury

Providing commercial advice and partnering with the CEO to support decision-making

Preparing annual budgets, forecasting cash flow and overseeing project budgets across multiple developments

Delivering financial analysis,



feasibility modelling and performance reporting to support investment decisions

Managing group reporting, statutory compliance and taxation obligations

Building strong relationships with banks, external advisers and other key stakeholders

Monitoring project performance, cost control and business profitability

Driving continuous improvement across finance systems, reporting and business processes

Leading, mentoring and developing a small finance team

Your Background

To be considered for this Head of Finance role, you will ideally meet the following criteria:

A hands-on approach with the willingness and familiarity of 'rolling up your sleeves', combined with the ability to operate effectively in a growing organisation

Professionally qualified (e.g. CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent)

Proven experience leading a small finance team

Property development industry experience is a pre-requisite with familiarity of the aforementioned tasks

Robust technical accounting, financial reporting and taxation knowledge

Experience with project budgeting, cash flow forecasting and financial feasibility analysis

A commercial mindset with the ability to influence decision-making

Confidence to build relationships across the business and with external partners

Those working in other aligned, similar lead finance roles are encouraged to apply (i.e. CFO, Finance Director or an experienced Financial Controller ready to step up)

Willingness to work in the office 5 days a week in the CBD
