About Our Water Team
Beca HunterH2O is the Australian water business of one of Asia Pacific’s largest independent advisory, design and engineering consultancies, Beca, comprising a team of 300+ water specialists dedicated to healthy and sustainable communities. We collaborate with clients across multiple city and regional offices including Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle, Tamworth, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Fiji.
The Prospect
We are looking for a Senior Hydraulic Engineer who is passionate about water and committed to providing clean water, reducing, reusing, and recycling water. The role can be based at either our Sydney or Melbourne office and involves leading project engineering, technical leadership, and client service. Responsibilities include
- Developing hydraulic solutions for conveyance pipelines, pump stations, and treatment plants.
- Mentoring junior team members.
- Building strong client relationships and ensuring services meet expectations.
- Providing solutions and service to clients off and on site.
Location
The role can be based at either our Sydney or Melbourne offices across Australia and New Zealand.

About You
You will be driven by a diversity of experiences, seeking autonomy, flexibility, and purpose in your work.
You possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence and drive project outcomes. Your background includes
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
- Chartered Qualified Engineer registration, or pursuing chartership.
- Understanding of water/wastewater industry standards and best practices.
- Broad experience in hydraulic engineering covering large diameter pipelines, pump stations, treatment plants, and hydraulic structures.
Required Experience
- Pressurised pipelines and networks.
- Pump system curves.
- Fluid transients and mitigation measures.
- Gravity sewer, stormwater, and gravity-driven flows.
- Treatment plant hydraulics.
- Open channel flow.
- Flow control and energy dissipation structures.
- Management of air entrainment.
Desirable Experience
- Pump and valve selection.
- Pipe specification and pipeline design.
- Ocean outfalls.
- Sludge and slurry pumping.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Experience with hydraulic software such as Infoworks WS, ICM, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, EPANET, EPA SWMM, Fluidflow, Fathom, Hytran, Impulse, Hammer.
- Experience in developing hydraulic grade lines and hydraulic profiles.
