The Livestock Hand plays an important role within the livestock management team, supporting the day-to-day care, handling and welfare of cattle. Based in Coonamble, Recent South Wales, this permanent full time position offers hands-on experience in livestock operations, animal health, safe work practices and general site duties. It is well suited to someone looking to build practical skills and develop a long-term career in the livestock industry.
Responsibilities:
Monitor livestock daily to support animal health, welfare and early identification of issues.
Observe cattle for signs of illness, injury, lameness, abnormal behaviour or changes in condition.
Report livestock health, welfare, feed, water, pen or facility concerns to the relevant supervisor.
Assist with the protected handling, movement and drafting of livestock as required.
Support animal health activities,
treatments and calving-related observations under the direction of experienced staff.
Maintain accurate records of livestock observations, treatments, movements and other relevant information.
Follow biosecurity, animal welfare and workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
Qualifications:
No formal education required; however, a background in agriculture or animal husbandry is advantageous.
Entry-level position; previous experience with livestock is preferred but not essential.
Basic understanding of animal care and welfare practices.
Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions.
Solid communication skills and a willingness to learn.
Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks in various weather conditions.
