Location: Eagle Farm head office – various areas in Brisbane
Your new company Hays has partnered with a public sector entity that manages the maintenance and upgrades of Brisbane roads. Our client is looking for a Field/ Laboratory technician to join the Laboratory Services team to deliver key projects on an ongoing basis.
As a Field and Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for a variety of testing and sampling tasks. The main objective is to investigate and report on road conditions. Investigations use 30 kg jackhammers, drill rigs and other heavy equipment.
Your role will involve
Laboratory Testing: Preparing and testing soil samples, conducting particle size analysis, plasticity testing, and soil strength testing. Accurate weighing, measuring, and data entry are essential.
Field Testing: Sampling and testing concrete, performing field density testing with a nuclear gauge (licence required), and conducting heavy lifting.
Drilling: Sampling soil using a truck-mounted drill rig, operating a 35kg jackhammer, and recording data.
Coring: Performing asphalt coring on live roads, using drills and core bits, and logging samples.
What you’ll need to succeed
Motivated, reliable, and physically fit
Attention to detail and positive situational awareness
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
C Class Licence mandatory: own transport preferred; MR or HR licence (or higher) desirable
No experience necessary – full training provided, but any experience is highly regarded.
Availability to work 6 days a week, including day and night shifts (Sunday to Friday)
Ability to complete CHC and Drug & Alcohol checks.
