About the Role
Sycomp is seeking aLow‐Voltage Technician (Data Centre)/ Data Centre Technicianto support hands‐on infrastructure deployments and operational support within data center environments across Melbourne.
This is afully on‐site, execution‐focused role, working night shifts in live production data centers.
The role places strong emphasis oncommercial low‐voltage cabling, rack & stack activities, and physical troubleshooting within structured cabling standards.
Key Responsibilities
Performrack and stackof servers, switches, and network equipment per rack elevation diagrams and port maps
Patch, label, and validateCat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cablingwithin data center environments
PerformRJ45 terminations, cable patching, labeling, and port mapping in accordance with structured cabling standards
UseFluke or equivalent toolsto validate connectivity and troubleshoot cabling issues
Install and label new network devices in existing racks
Troubleshoot physical connectivity, cabling, and hardware issues in live data center environments
Replace and decommission hardware components (drives, PSUs, NICs, switches, etc.)
Maintain accurate documentation, update tickets, and record work performed
Work collaboratively with internal teams, customers, and vendors to execute change and service requests
Adhere strictly to data center safety, security,



and operational procedures
Required Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of hands‐on experienceworking in data center environments
Strong practical experience withlow‐voltage cabling(copper and fiber) in commercial or data center settings
Proven hands‐on experience with rack & stack, patching, labeling, and physical troubleshooting
Experience workingnight shiftsin 24/7 operational environments
High attention to detail and strong documentation discipline
Licences & Certifications
AustralianLow‐Voltage or Restricted Electrical Licenceishighly preferable, depending on project scope
Relevant licences may include:
Restricted Electrical Licence (REL – Class 1 or Class 2)
Unrestricted Electrical Licence (A‐Grade)(advantageous but not required)
Candidates without a licence may be considered where experience is clearly withindata‐centre low‐voltage scopeand compliant with site procedures
Industry or vendor certifications (e.g. CCNA) are advantageous but not required
