Cyber Security Engineer – Canberra | Permanent | Australian Citizenship Required
We're supporting a growing organisation that is investing heavily in its cyber security capability and looking for a Cyber Security Engineer who wants to develop, contribute, and make a meaningful impact.
In this role, you'll work closely with the Senior Cyber Security Engineer to deliver uplift projects, respond to incidents, strengthen Essential Eight maturity, and support internal and external stakeholders with clear, practical security guidance.
This position suits someone who is self‐motivated, curious, and passionate about safeguarding Australia's digital and critical infrastructure.
About the Role
Work closely with the Senior Cyber Security Engineer to deliver security uplift initiatives
Action and remediate assigned security incidents
Support audit activities and remediation projects
Contribute to the organisation's cyber roadmap and KPI delivery
Provide outstanding customer service to internal and external stakeholders
Work across foundational and emerging cyber technologies in a business environment
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong interest in cyber security and a desire to grow in the field
Experience delivering Essential Eight and other control implementations
A team oriented mindset with motivation to protect national digital infrastructure
Knowledge of common security standards and frameworks




Experience with vulnerability management tools
Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, customer friendly language
Experience managing Microsoft 365 tenancies
Exposure to one or more security domains, such as: EDR, application control, vulnerability management, DLP, IDS/IPS, network security, SIEM, IAM, cloud security
Ability to obtain an AGSVA security clearance (Australian citizens only)
Highly Desirable
Relevant industry certifications (Microsoft, ISC2, GIAC, AWS, Azure, etc.)
Demonstrated knowledge of cloud infrastructure security (Azure and/or AWS)
MSP or help desk experience
Understanding of the ISM and PSPF
Experience building, configuring, or maintaining SIEM platforms, particularly:Splunk
Microsoft Sentinel
