Overview
Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAMEs)
Mechanical & Avionics | Global Mission Aviation
If you're an experinced Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer who loves precision, problem-solving, and aircraft that must perform in tough environments... we'd love to talk to you.
We're looking for experinced engineers who are excited topass on skills, build capability, and help national teams grow strong and independent.
AtMission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), every aircraft we maintain is part of a bigger story—serving remote communities where aviation is often the only lifeline.
What makes this role different?
Our aircraft operate in some of the most demanding environments in the world.
Safety isn't just important—it's everything.
We operate mainly single-engine turbine and piston aircraft, where attention to detail and deep technical expertise matter every day.
But just as key as keeping aircraft flying... ishelping others learn to do the same.
We're looking for LAMEs who don't just fix aircraft, but who also:
Enjoy mentoring and training national engineers and apprentices
Believe in building local capability, not dependency
Are willing to share knowledge generously and patiently
Take joy in seeing others grow in confidence and skill
Your legacy won't just be safe aircraft—it will beskilled people who can carry the work forward long after you've left the Programme.
We currently have vacancies in Papua New Guinea (x2), Bougainville, Arnhem Land, Timor-Leste, & Guinea.
In the hangar, our typical days usually involve inspections.
Much of our work is preventative so by carrying out inspections every 100 or 200 operational hours, we are able to catch most things before they become problems.
Field repairs for the occasional break down in remote locations can provide interesting logistics and problem solving challenges that add to the variety in this amazing role.
In some of our larger facilities, we're also able to take on some bigger projects too, that might involve delving into parts of an aircraft not normally opened, to replace entire avionics systems, or stripping all of the paint off an aircraft to carry out structural repairs then repaint in our new colour scheme.
NOTE: You will need to be able to obtain appropriate work permits for the country the position is based in*
Responsibilities
What you'll be doing
You'll lead and support aircraft maintenance planning and execution, ensuring aircraft are maintained to the highest standards and ready for mission use at all times.
You'll champion safety and quality, contribute to audits and continuous improvement, and help strengthen a strong safety culture across the engineering team.
A key part of your role will be mentoring and developing others—supporting trainees, national engineers, and AMEs through hands‐on guidance, feedback, and encouragement.
You'll also continue growing professionally through CPD,
training, and engagement with MAF's global engineering community.
From time to time, you may also support other MAF programmes internationally, bringing your expertise where it's needed most (up to 10 weeks per year).
