About This Role

This position is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Prospect Act ****.
Senior Program and Compliance Officer – Stolen Generations Repatriations Unit
Salary: VPS 5 – $116,413 - $140,849 plus superannuation.
About The Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, connecting, supporting and delivering better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self‐determination in the justice sector.
The SGRU was established to implement the Package to help address the trauma and suffering caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families, culture and Country. The Senior Program and Compliance Officer will be responsible for leading and developing key internal business processes and systems and supporting the Manager, Policy, Strategy and Operations to ensure the effective delivery of the Package.
About The Role
Strong communication skills required when working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma,
with an in‐depth understanding of cultural safety principles and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians. Resilience, empathy and adaptability are essential; the role may involve dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing.
Key Duties
Provide authoritative advice on legislative and policy obligations, including identifying and managing compliance risks and issues.
Analyse financial performance and provide strategic advice on risks, pressures and funding requirements.
Drive robust governance frameworks, including oversight of Advisory Committee processes, briefings and decision‐making protocols.
Lead and develop internal business processes and systems to support effective delivery of the Package.
About You
Demonstrated experience applying legislative policy within program delivery, including interpreting requirements and embedding compliance controls, monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
Strong financial and analytical capability, including budgeting, forecasting and financial oversight, with the ability to interpret data and monitor program expenditure and liabilities.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, its society, culture and the issues impacting it.
Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
Qualifications
Qualification in project management, public administration or a related discipline/experience is desirable.
