Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer KBR, as part of the Linewide Alliance, is proud to be awarded the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Linewide Alliance contract.SRL is a city-shaping infrastructure project that will transform how people live and move around Melbourne.
The 90km orbital rail line will connect every major train line, link key precincts, and support vibrant communities.
SRL East, the first stage, will deliver 26km of twin underground tunnels and six new stations between Cheltenham and Box Hill, enabling 70,000 new homes near public transport, jobs, schools, and services.
It will create diverse, accessible communities shaped by local input, with upgraded open space, bike paths, and essential infrastructure.
The Alliance, comprising John Holland, Alstom, RATP DEC, WSP, and KBR, will deliver The Linewide package of works, which includes tunnel fit-outs, rolling stock, and construction of depot and maintenance facilities.
This package is critical to safe, efficient train operations and long-term performance across SRL East.
KBR, alongside WSP as Designer Non-Owner Participant, is leading comprehensive design services and contributing to alliance management.
Our infrastructure design scope includes track, overhead line equipment, drainage and overland flow, civil works, tunnel portals, building structures and services, HV and LV power systems, cable containment, systems integration and safety assurance, ensuring seamless delivery across the corridor.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading the design and delivery of mechanical building services solutions for major rail and infrastructure projects.
Providing technical leadership across studies, detailed design, specifications, and engineering documentation.
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated and innovative project solutions.
Managing project delivery to meet quality, budget, and schedule objectives.
Building trusted relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Supporting business development activities, including proposal preparation and identifying new opportunities.
Mentoring junior engineers and designers, helping to build capability across the team.
Contributing to a positive, collaborative culture where knowledge sharing and technical excellence are valued.
About You
You're a seasoned Mechanical Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with a practical,
solutions-focused approach.
You thrive in complex project environments, enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and are confident taking ownership of projects from concept through to delivery.
With experience delivering building services and infrastructure projects within a consulting or commercial setting, you're comfortable leading design initiatives, managing competing priorities, and building trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
You bring sound engineering judgement, a commitment to quality, and a passion for delivering outcomes that make a real impact.
You're equally comfortable rolling up your sleeves to solve technical challenges as you are mentoring junior engineers, contributing to project strategy, and helping grow client relationships.

What You'll Bring
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Chartered Engineer, CPEng, RPEQ (or equivalent) status, or the ability to obtain registration in the near future.
Strong technical capability across mechanical building services design, from concept development through to detailed design.
Experience delivering complex projects within consulting, engineering, or infrastructure environments.
The ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A collaborative mindset and a genuine interest in supporting and mentoring others.
Bonus Points
Experience working on rail, transport, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
Exposure to business development activities, client relationship management, or proposal preparation.
Project and design management experience, including commercial and budget responsibility.
A proven track record of building strong client relationships and identifying opportunities for growth.
