Role Introduction
We are seeking an
Area People Lead, Australia and New Zealand
to join Cathay Pacific in Sydney on a
12-month, fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
This role serves as the primary local contact for Human Resources matters, supporting more than 200 employees across Australia and New Zealand.
It provides guidance to managers, oversees day to day people processes, concerns and enquiries, and works closely with the regional team to deliver people initiatives.
The role also includes management responsibility for one direct report.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage employee concerns, providing guidance and ensuring matters are handled in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and legislation to achieve fair and consistent outcomes.
Partner with the IR/ER department to seek input on local legal requirements and country specific industrial relations matters.
Act as the Return to Work Coordinator by investigating new claims and liaising with injured employees, managers and insurers to support return to work arrangements.
Provide advice and support to the Regional General Manager, Area/Country Head, department managers and line managers on day to day people issues and concerns
Under the guidance of the Southeast Asia and Oceania team, activate and execute local programmes to drive engagement, performance,



training, reward and benefits, wellbeing and recognition to help nurture the Cathay culture
Ensure that managers and employees are well informed of processes and policies
Partner with the People Operations Manager to maintain accurate and up to date people processes, systems and data as well as work with regional teams to address any compliance matters.
Support workforce management activities, including workforce planning, staffing requirements and related people data analysis.
Support the preparation of annual staff budgets, remuneration reviews and related analysis.
Requirements
4+ years of experience
Strong attention to detail
Ability to handle conflict and mediate to achieve a timely and positive outcome
Has an approachable and open style of communication
Practical knowledge of Human Resources compliance and processes, with Australia and New Zealand experience preferred
Collaborative and works well with remote teams
Proactive and energetic
High levels of integrity, trusted and able to exercise discretion
