What is the prospect?
Reporting to the Automation & Controls Lead, the Automation & Controls Engineer plays a critical role in supporting and optimising the site's Automation and Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure.
This includes stewardship of PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, servers and associated control systems that underpin reliable and efficient manufacturing operations.
Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, IT and external partners, you will maintain and enhance automation systems, support operational readiness, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that drive plant performance.
Key responsibilities include:
Supporting project completion and handover activities, ensuring all systems, documentation and training requirements are met for successful transition into operations
Maintaining, troubleshooting and optimising PLC, HMI and SCADA systems to support safe and efficient production
Collaborating with IT teams to ensure automation infrastructure follows best practice for cybersecurity, software management and system access control
Partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing and vendors to identify priorities and implement automation solutions aligned to operational needs




Diagnosing control system and automation issues and implementing sustainable improvements to increase reliability and efficiency
Managing control system documentation, version control and knowledge management systems
Supporting compliance with relevant standards and participating in risk assessments to identify and mitigate operational risks
Contributing to preventative maintenance strategies, CMMS development and critical spare parts management
Driving continuous improvement projects focused on productivity, reliability and operational excellence
About you
You are a technically capable automation professional who enjoys solving complex problems and working collaboratively across multiple functions.
You bring strong automation and control systems expertise, along with an ability to influence stakeholders and drive improvements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
Strong experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms including ControlLogix, PanelView, associated I/O and industrial networks
Strong experience with Siemens automation platforms including S7, TIA Portal, WinCC and related networking systems
Experience supporting Windows Server environments, Active Directory and SQL-based applications
Experience maintaining and integrating SCADA systems, with Ignition SCADA experience highly regarded
Demonstrated practical and technical knowledge of electrical equipment installation and maintenance
Strong understanding of automation architecture, operational technology and industrial control systems
Proven ability to work safely and deliver outcomes aligned to relevant Australian Standards
Excellent problem-solving,



communication and stakeholder management skills
Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Trade qualification or equivalent
