About the Role
The Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling enclosures, mechanical components, modules and finished products in accordance with engineering drawings, assembly instructions and quality requirements.
The successful candidate will have robust practical assembly skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce consistent, high-quality workmanship.
Experience in electronics manufacturing is desirable but not essential.
You will work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure products are assembled accurately, efficiently and in accordance with customer, engineering and quality requirements.
Key responsibilities
Assemble mechanical components, enclosures, modules and finished products.
Install hardware, fasteners, brackets, panels and mechanical assemblies.
Prepare, route and install cables, connectors and associated hardware in accordance with drawings and work instructions.
Apply labels, adhesives and identification markings accurately.
Use hand tools, power tools and torque-controlled equipment safely and effectively.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions and bills of materials.
Inspect completed assemblies against drawings, specifications and work instructions.
Identify and report assembly issues, defects or quality concerns.
Apply specified torque settings and complete required production and traceability records.
Follow ESD, FOD, safety and product-handling requirements.
Conduct in-process and final visual checks against drawings, specifications and workmanship requirements.
Perform rework and adjustments where required.Follow production procedures, work instructions and quality management systems.
Complete assembly tasks safely, accurately and efficiently.
Essential Skills and Experience
Previous experience in mechanical assembly, manufacturing or a similar hands-on production environment.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions and BOMs.
Experience using hand tools, power tools and torque-controlled equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to accurately fit mechanical components, hardware and assemblies.
Good problem-solving skills and the ability to follow documented processes.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Reliable, punctual and motivated with a strong work ethic.
Highly Regarded
Experience working within an electronics manufacturing environment.
Experience assembling electronic enclosures, equipment racks, modules or finished products.
Experience with cable preparation, connector installation or wiring assemblies.
Experience using measurement equipment such as verniers, calipers or gauges.
Experience completing production and product traceability documentation.
Experience working in defence, aerospace, medical or other controlled manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with quality standards and controlled manufacturing processes.
Experience working with precision mechanical assemblies.
