About the role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Coordinator connects our production, procurement, sales and distribution functions.
You will take ownership of production documentation and coordinate the flow of jobs, orders and requisitions to help ensure customer lead times and DIFOT targets are consistently met.
This is a genuinely broad and hands-on position.
On any given day, you may be scheduling production job cards, reviewing a Bill of Materials, following up a supplier's delivery date, investigating a stock variance or quoting a bespoke manufactured component.
The position would suit someone with practical manufacturing knowledge who enjoys solving problems, coordinating competing priorities and improving the way an operation works.
Key responsibilities
Production planning and documentation
Prepare and schedule production job cards in accordance with quality requirements.
Liaise daily with factory supervisors and the Production Planner regarding workflow, priorities and overdue jobs.
Establish and maintain the weekly production schedule.
Review daily production reports and ensure discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
Work with the internal programmer and drafter to maintain accurate product data, drawings and specifications.
Quality assurance and continuous improvement
Act as the site's quality champion and help build a strong culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Investigate internal, supplier and customer non-conformances to identify root causes and appropriate resolutions.
Raise, track and close out NCRs, corrective actions and preventive actions.
Manage quality issues involving third-party finishers, including galvanising, powder coating and passivating.
Coordinate rework, supplier credits and corrective actions.
Maintain quality records in line with ISO **** requirements and support internal and external audits.
Report defect trends and rework costs to the Operations Manager.
Drive practical improvements that reduce recurring defects and failures.
Bills of Materials, costing and product data
Maintain Bills of Materials for the Burndy product range.
Review and update standard costs when pricing changes.
Assist with standard-cost roll-ups.
Create and advise on new part codes consistent with the existing product range.
Review part maintenance within the M1 ERP system, including alternate and locally manufactured products.
Inventory and stock accuracy
Coordinate stock accuracy across the manufacturing and yard departments.
Manage cycle counts and stocktakes in accordance with the monthly plan.
Investigate stock variances, discrepancies and damaged products.
Share findings and lessons with the relevant teams.
Ensure critical areas of the inventory system are properly controlled and reconciled.
Procurement, suppliers and third parties
Manage day-to-day relationships with third-party suppliers, including galvanisers, powder coaters, stainless-steel passivators, laser cutters and line-haul logistics providers.
Raise and manage purchase orders.
Ensure outsourced goods are returned within agreed timeframes and correctly receipted.
Process and reconcile creditor invoices.
Regularly review third-party pricing and performance and assess alternative suppliers to achieve the best cost and service outcomes.
Coordinate the annual machinery maintenance and calibration schedule in line with production requirements.
Distribution, logistics and service delivery
Coordinate interstate sales orders and requisitions to meet DIFOT and cost targets.
Check orders for accurate due dates and advise plant staff of expected delays or inaccuracies.
Investigate and report missed DIFOT targets.
Monitor picking accuracy across requisitions and direct orders.
Coordinate project supply and direct deliveries from the national warehouse.
Manage delivery forecasts against project demand.
Coordinate external warehouses established for projects or additional storage, ensuring system records accurately reflect all stock movements.
Review the performance of transport providers and third-party carriers.
Drive continuous improvement across yard and dispatch operations, including exploring technology that can improve service delivery.
Customer and internal support
Be a key point of contact for production and national distribution enquiries and product specifications.
Coordinate enquiries relating to bespoke products manufactured by Burndy CSS East Coast.
Liaise with the Burndy WA Manager to help maintain appropriate branch stock and raw-material levels.
Coordinate labour hire according to production and distribution requirements.
Maintain the Acacia Ridge training matrix and associated records.
Process daily timecards for payroll reconciliation and submit employee leave forms.
Work health and safety
Chair the onsite OHS Committee.
Actively promote and participate in all aspects of workplace health and safety.
Encourage the reporting, investigation and documentation of hazards, incidents and accidents.
Help enforce approved safe-work policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
Use and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment.
Remain familiar with site emergency procedures.
About you
Essential
Experience within metal fabrication, steel or heavy manufacturing.
Sound working knowledge of fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Demonstrated understanding of production planning and scheduling.
Working knowledge of Bills of Materials, inventory control, warehousing and purchasing.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Confidence using ERP or MRP business systems.
Excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills.
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Highly regarded
Formal project-management training or practical project-management experience.
Exposure to ISO **** quality-management systems.
Knowledge of local and overseas logistics.
Experience using M1 or a comparable manufacturing ERP system.
Previous experience in a similar manufacturing coordination role.
