About the role
Legal Counsel provides trusted legal and commercial advice to support the successful delivery of Housing Australia's More Homes transactions.
Working closely with investment teams, the role contributes to the negotiation and ongoing management of transaction documents, ensuring transactions are commercially sound, legally compliant, and aligned with organisational objectives.
The position plays a key role in identifying and managing legal and commercial risks, supporting transactions from application stage through to execution, and working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external advisers, and counterparties to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Provide commercial and legal support on funding rounds and across transactions, ensuring outcomes are compliant, commercially sound, and aligned with organisational objectives.
Draft, review, and negotiate transaction documentation, including funding agreements, novations, variations, and other key contractual arrangements.
Identify and manage legal and commercial risks, providing pragmatic advice and mitigation strategies to support informed decision-making and successful transaction outcomes.
Coordinate transaction delivery and continuous improvement, working closely with internal stakeholders,



external advisers, and counterparties to progress transactions efficiently and enhance processes, templates, and documentation standards.
Skills and experience
Experience providing commercial legal advice on transactions, ideally within construction, property, housing, or government-related environments.
Strong drafting, negotiation, and contract management skills, with experience reviewing and negotiating funding agreements, and other commercial contracts.
Demonstrated ability to identify and manage legal and commercial risks, providing practical, solutions-focused advice to support business outcomes.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with investment teams, external advisers, and counterparties, and senior decision-makers.
Relevant legal qualifications and admission to practice in Australia, 2 to 5 years PQE, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes in a rapid-paced environment.
