About the Role
This is imei's lead AI builder.
The technical anchor for AI within our Tech & Systems team, with board-level backing.
Reporting directly to the Chief AI & Security Officer, you'll partner with our Head of Development on governance, secure delivery, and lead how imei builds with AI.
The mandate is straightforward: drive automation, revenue growth, and margin improvement through the practical deployment of AI tools and agents across the business.
You will define the patterns, set the standards, and lift AI capability across the Tech & Systems team.
imei already builds with Claude (Code and Cowork) and leverages Microsoft Copilot across its M365 estate.
This role takes that from ad-hoc individual use to a deliberate, scaled capability.
You will have the autonomy to define what that looks like.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Build and Ship AI Solutions
Design, build,



and deploy production AI workflows, agents, and integrations that solve real imei business problems.
Accountable for shipped, measurable outcomes, not pilots.
Review and improve imei's AI development environment, tooling, standards, and reusable patterns within the first 90 days.
Own the AI technical roadmap.
Model, framework, pattern selection and maintain a prioritised, business-cased delivery backlog.
Capability Uplift and Mentoring
Coach and develop Tech & Systems team members building AI delivery capability including staff transitioning into AI work through pair programming, code review, and structured skill development.
Lift AI capability across the wider business by publishing reusable patterns, libraries, prompts, and reference implementations.
Governance, Security, and Cost Control
Extend imei's secure development and governance practices to AI work, in partnership with the Head of Development.
Establish and maintain AI responsible-use guardrails: data handling, prompt logging, PII controls, and model-selection criteria.
Ensure AI work complies with imei's ISO ***** obligations and Secure Software Development Policy.
Monitor and control tooling, API, and infrastructure spend.
Validate unit economics before scaling any solution.
Stakeholder Partnering
Partner with operations, sales, and customer service leaders to identify and prioritise high-leverage automation opportunities.
Advise leadership on AI feasibility, trade-offs, and return on investment in plain, commercial language.
What Do You Bring?
Essential
Currently shipping production code with Claude Code, Codex, or a comparable agentic coding tool as your daily driver.
Evidence required at interview.
3–7 years of skilled software engineering experience with demonstrated end-to-end ownership.




Strong general software engineering foundation; fluent in at least one of Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or C#/.
NET; comfortable switching stacks.
Hands-on with modern LLM tooling: Claude / OpenAI / Gemini APIs, agent frameworks, RAG, vector databases, prompt engineering and evals.
Desirable
Telco, MSP, or B2B technology services background.
Microsoft stack exposure: Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, .
NET.
Experience with customer-service automation, sales enablement AI, or financial process automation.
A public technical voice: GitHub activity, blog posts, or conference talks.
Has shipped agentic systems as products: multi-step reasoning, tool use, agent loops, evals.
