Container Exchange (COEX) is the Queensland Government appointed not for profit operator of the Containers for Change scheme and is proud to deliver a program that continues to generate positive environmental, social and economic outcomes for communities throughout the state.

THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager, Audit & Risk within the Corporate Services team, the Audit Lead will support the delivery of COEX's assurance program, with a key focus on scheme compliance reviews, internal audit coordination and corrective action management.
This permanent opportunity will see you working closely with internal stakeholdersand external audit partners to coordinate assurance activities, monitor audit outcomes and support continuous improvement across the organisation.
The role offers a strong blend of hands-on audit delivery, stakeholder engagement and governance exposure, making it ideal for an audit, assurance or compliance professional looking to broaden their in-house experience in a purpose-led organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinating and delivering COEX's Scheme Compliance Review program
Conducting compliance reviews and site assurance activities to identify risks,
control weaknesses and improvement opportunities
Supporting the delivery of the Internal Audit Plan in partnership with external audit providers
Coordinating audit planning, scheduling, document requests, evidence collection and stakeholder communications
Maintaining audit schedules, working papers, assurance records and reporting dashboards
Managing corrective action registers and monitoring remediation progress
Reviewing closure evidence to assess whether actions address audit findings and root causes
Preparing audit, assurance and corrective action reporting for management and governance forums
Supporting Audit & Risk Committee papers and assurance reporting packs
Contributing to the continuous improvement of audit methodologies, templates, procedures and reporting processes
Building effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external providers and operational teams
Supporting integrity, compliance, risk and safety activities as required
ABOUT YOU
This role will suit an audit, assurance or compliance professional who enjoys working closely with stakeholders and balancing analytical thinking with practical delivery.
You understand that effective assurance is more than completing reviews.
You can assess evidence, identify risks and control weaknesses, prepare clear findings and support practical actions that improve governance and operational outcomes.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
Experience in internal audit, external audit, assurance,
compliance or operational review environments
Experience planning, conducting and reporting audits, reviews or assurance activities
Strong understanding of governance, risk management, controls and contemporary assurance practices
Experience managing corrective action registers, issue registers or audit follow-up processes
Strong analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills
Ability to prepare concise, high-quality reports for management and governance forums
Confidence engaging stakeholders across all levels of an organisation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A proactive approach and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
Professional certifications such as CIA, Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP), or progress towards these qualifications will be viewed favourably.
Understanding of the Three Lines of Defence Model and contemporary assurance practices along with experience working within regulated environments, commercial operating models or GRC platforms will also be highly regarded.
Flexibility to travel, including to remote locations, will be required.
