Venue Manager
Fixed Term (12 Month Contract) | Kingston Hotel
Kingston Hotel is looking for an experienced, people-focused leader to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract, with a clear purpose: to mentor and develop our current management team while helping to lift operational and leadership standards across the venue.
This isn't a standard venue management appointment.
We're looking for someone who has already led venues successfully and now wants to use that experience to build the capability of others - working alongside our existing Duty Managers and supervisors to coach, upskill and embed strong leadership habits that will outlast the contract itself.
If you love developing people as much as running a floor, and you want a defined, purpose-driven assignment rather than an open-ended role, this could be exactly right for you.
About Kalis Hospitality and Kingston Hotel
At Kalis Hospitality, we are driven by our mission to deliver exceptional experiences, every time.
Our values of Community, Growth, Honesty and Respect guide how we lead, work and support each other every day.
These values are not just words on a page.
They shape the culture we are building across our venues and the expectations we have of our leaders.
Kingston Hotel is a venue with strong local connection and real potential.
For this 12-month engagement, we're seeking a Venue Manager who can step in, provide steady and experienced leadership, and - just as importantly - grow the capability of the team who will carry that leadership forward once the contract ends.
Why this role is different
This is a focused, 12-month mentoring assignment rather than a traditional ongoing appointment.
It's suited to an experienced Venue Manager who wants a meaningful, time-bound challenge - someone who gets real satisfaction from lifting a team up, not just running a venue solo.
You'll have the autonomy to lead Kingston Hotel's day to day, backed by genuine influence over how the venue and its people develop, and a direct line to HR and leadership throughout the contract.
To be successful in this role, values fit matters just as much as experience.
We are looking for someone who is community minded, honest, respectful, growth focused, and genuinely energised by developing the leaders around them.
This role is an immediate start, and we will begin contacting potential candidates straight away - so don't wait to apply.
What we offer
A leadership team that understands life happens – we work with you to build rosters that respect your time outside of work
A genuine commitment to employee wellbeing, because happy, healthy people make for great teams and even better venues'
Free parking for added convenience
Cashback at hundreds of stores via our SWAG employee app
Employee Perks Program with discounts across bottle shops, venues and accommodation
Access to our Employee Assistance Program, providing confidential support for employees and their immediate family members
Opportunities to attend networking events, development days and further upskilling opportunities
Specialist support from an experienced Head Office team across stock control and inventory systems, finance, reporting and P&L; insights, human resources and recruitment, payroll, licensing and legislative compliance, marketing and brand, and IT systems, so you can focus on leading and developing your team
A high-impact, defined-term assignment with real influence - the chance to shape how the venue is led long after the contract concludes
Close collaboration with HR and the leadership team throughout the engagement
Relocation or rental assistance can be discussed for the right candidate
What you will do
Provide hands‐on venue leadership across day‐to‐day operations for the duration of the contract
Mentor and coach the current management team - including Duty Managers and supervisors - to build their confidence, capability and readiness for ongoing leadership
Take ownership of people leadership across the venue, including team development, performance conversations, onboarding and creating a positive culture
Maintain strong operational standards across service, presentation, stock control,
safety and compliance
Manage rosters, labour, costs and venue performance in a way that supports both the team and the business
Work with existing leaders to embed consistent processes, standards and decision‐making so improvements are sustained after the contract ends
Build strong local relationships and strengthen the venue's connection to its community
Work closely with the wider leadership team to align the venue with company values, standards and business goals
Provide regular feedback to HR and leadership on team progress and readiness ahead of the contract's conclusion
Be a visible and hands‐on leader, particularly across weekends and evenings when the venue is at its busiest
What you will bring
Proven Venue Manager experience, with a track record of running a hospitality venue successfully
A genuine passion for coaching and developing others — this role is as much about mentoring as it is about running the floor
Confidence to assess team capability honestly and build tailored development plans within a defined timeframe
Solid operational experience and the ability to confidently manage a venue day to day
A leadership style that reflects our values of Community, Growth, Honesty and Respect
The maturity to lead a team through a fixed‐term engagement, with a focus on legacy and handover rather than long‐term personal tenure
Robust communication skills and comfort working closely with HR and senior leadership
A willingness to work weekends and evenings as part of the role
Availability to commit to a 12-month fixed term contract
Some final points
We are looking for a committed, experienced leadership professional with a strong background in hospitality.
If you have the background required for a fixed-term, high-impact assignment, we want to hear from you.
Please ensure you answer the screening questions as this will give us the information we need to assess your application!
Please note applications will be assessed as received.
