It's a serious build: multi-source data, intricate rating logic, and real weight behind every calculation.
This is a senior technical role, not a people-management one — you'll set the standards, own the architecture, and mentor a small team while still shipping code yourself.What makes this role differentYou'll work in an AI-led development environment, using Claude Code within GBCA's Governed Autonomy model to accelerate design, coding,



testing and documentation - while keeping engineering standards high and staying accountable for what ships.
You'll also shape how the team uses AI well, not just how you do.What you'll doOwn the architecture and technical design of Green Star Online and GBCA's other digital products, documenting decisions on frameworks, patterns, integrations and trade-offsStay hands-on across the full stack: React/Vite and TypeScript, cloud-hosted back-end services, and Azure SQLDefine and own the platform's security model across the application and database layers -authentication and authorisation, session and API security, least-privilege access, and encryption in transit and at restDesign and integrate APIs and integration layers across internal and external systemsDesign, query and optimise Azure SQL databases, and deliver reliable data migration from legacy systems with quality checksOwn deployment through GitHub, CI/CD pipelines and a clear dev/test/prod environment strategy, with automated testing and monitoringProvide day-to-day technical guidance to a Full Stack Developer and a Junior Software Engineer through code review, pairing and knowledge sharingSet and uphold engineering standards, review the team's code and AI-generated output, and act as the technical point of contact –unblocking issues and escalating risksRecommend improvements to the stack where it's in GBCA's best interestsThe detailsFull-time, 24-month fixed-term contract, with a view to becoming permanent after 12 months.
You'll report to the Senior Manager – Digital and lead a team of two.Degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, information systems or a related disciplineRelevant certifications in software development, cloud platforms or database technologies (desirable)Minimum 5 years' experience as a full stack developer delivering production-grade software,



including recent, hands-on deliveryProven experience owning solution architecture and making technology-stack and design decisionsExperience leading or mentoring a small development team, setting engineering standards and reviewing others' code and AI-generated outputsStrong front-end development with React (ideally Vite and TypeScript) and strong back-end developmentStrong SQL skills, including designing, querying and optimising relational databases (Azure SQL / T-SQL) and working across multiple data sourcesExperience with Microsoft Azure cloud services (e.g. Azure SQL, Azure Static Web Apps, App Service / Functions)Experience with Git/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines and contemporary deployment practicesExperience building complex, logic-driven applications such as rating, scoring or calculation tools (highly desirable)Experience delivering data migration from legacy systems, with data-quality assuranceExperience designing and integrating APIs and data-integration layers across systemsExperience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude / Claude Code), or a strong aptitude and willingness to adopt AI-led workflowsDemonstrated experience designing application and database-level security, authentication and authorisation (ideally Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD, or equivalent), role-based access control, encryption in transit and at rest, and protection against common web vulnerabilitiesSound understanding of software architecture, privacy, testing and deployment practicesAwareness of accessibility standards and experience working with a design system (desirable)Ability to work independently, take ownership and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervisionStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex requirements into working softwareStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and work effectively in a small, fast-moving teamBe careful - Don't provide your bank or credit card details when applying for jobs.
