Step 4

New South Wales

Step4 is looking for an experienced NetSuite Developer to take ownership of our ongoing NetSuite development, integrations, and automation - including leading how we bring AI into and around our ERP.
This is a hands-on technical role.
You'll work directly with the leadership team to scope, build, and maintain customisations, and you'll be the person who turns "we need this to work better" into a working solution - not just a recommendation.
Step4 supplies furniture, educational resources, and equipment to preschools and early learning centres across Australia.
NetSuite is our core ERP, running our sales, marketing, inventory, projects, and finance operations.
Reporting
Reports to the CEO.
Works closely with our internal NetSuite/product resource on scoping and handoff of technical work.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain SuiteScript customisations (User Event, Scheduled, Client, Map/Reduce, RESTlet scripts)
Build and maintain SuiteFlow workflows for approvals, order processing, and business logic
Develop and maintain custom records, custom fields, forms, and subtabs (SuiteBuilder)
Build and maintain integrations between NetSuite and third-party systems (APIs, webhooks, middleware)
Own SuiteCloud Development Framework (SDF) deployments - version control, bundles, sandbox-to-production release process
Build and maintain saved searches, KPI portlets, and reporting tools
Create Suitelets and portlets as required, for internal tools, dashboards, and custom user interfaces
Optimise and speed up NetSuite - identify and fix slow searches, scripts, workflows, and page loads

Lead the design and rollout of AI-driven automation within and around NetSuite (e.g. connecting NetSuite to AI APIs, automating manual processes, building internal tools)
Troubleshoot and resolve NetSuite performance, data, and scripting issues
Document technical builds clearly enough for non-technical staff to understand and maintain long-term
Provide input on technical feasibility and effort when new projects are scoped
NetSuite (minimum 4 years' hands-on development experience):
SuiteScript 2.x (and working knowledge of 1.0 for legacy scripts) - User Event, Scheduled, Client, Map/Reduce, RESTlet script types
SuiteFlow - building multi-step workflows with conditions, approvals, and actions
SuiteBuilder - custom records, custom fields, custom forms, sublists/subtabs
SuiteTalk / REST API - building and maintaining integrations with external systems
SuiteCloud Development Framework (SDF) - deployment and release management between sandbox and production
Saved searches and NetSuite reporting tools, including performance optimisation of complex searches
Debugging and fixing existing scripts and workflows built by others
Experience with at least one other programming language or platform (e.g. Python, PHP, or similar)

REST API integration experience outside of NetSuite (connecting systems, working with webhooks, authentication, JSON)
Practical experience using AI tools/APIs in a development context (e.g. building automations with AI APIs, using AI coding assistants, integrating LLMs into workflows) - this isn't about knowing AI exists, it's about having actually built something with it
Comfortable working independently from a brief, without needing detailed technical specs handed to you
Highly Regarded (Not Essential)
Experience with automation/integration platforms (Zapier, Make, or similar)
Experience in a small-to-mid size business where you're the sole or primary developer, not part of a large dev team
Exposure to inventory, supply chain, or project-based business models
Experience with SharePoint / Microsoft 365 integrations
What Success Looks Like in This Role
NetSuite customisations are built to a standard where they don't break with routine use, and can be picked up and understood by someone else if needed
Manual, repetitive processes get identified and automated - with AI where it makes sense, without it where it doesn't
The business has a genuine internal technical resource for NetSuite, rather than relying on ad-hoc external help
Leadership can bring you a business problem, not just a technical spec, and trust you to work out the right solution
Hours: 2-3 days per week (versatile on which days, negotiable on structure)
Location: in-office
Type: Part-Time / Casual / Contract (To Be Confirmed)
