We are seeking an experienced Principal Project Engineer to join the Natural Disaster Program (NDP), supporting the successful delivery of critical transport infrastructure recovery projects.

Working alongside an experienced Senior Project Managers, you will play a key role in the planning, delivery, contract administration and financial management of disaster recovery projects from inception through to completion.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex infrastructure projects that directly support Queensland communities following natural disasters.

About the Role

As the Principal Project Engineer, you will provide engineering, technical and project delivery support across a portfolio of Natural Disaster Program recovery works.

You will contribute to both pre-construction and construction phases while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved funding, scope, budget and program requirements.

This role requires a strong understanding of civil construction, transport infrastructure delivery, contract administration, project controls and DRFA processes.

You will work closely with contractors, consultants, internal stakeholders and regional delivery teams to ensure projects are completed successfully while maintaining compliance with Transport and Main Roads (TMR) standards and governance requirements.

Key responsibilities

- Support the Project Manager in delivering Natural Disaster Program recovery projects by coordinating pre-construction and construction activities, monitoring project progress through site inspections and meetings,



maintaining an understanding of project scope, risks and priorities, and providing technical engineering advice throughout delivery.
- Monitor project scope, risks and priorities, proactively identifying opportunities to improve project delivery outcomes.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders, including Project Managers, regional delivery teams and the Natural Disaster Program Office.
- Maintain project budgets, expenditure, forecasts and cost reporting within TMR project management systems and SAP.
- Develop, maintain and review project schedules using Primavera P6, assessing contractor programs, construction sequencing, critical paths, milestones and resource allocation to ensure contractual compliance and project delivery.
- Coordinate project completion documentation, final acquittals and the capture of completion records and photographic evidence within RADAR.

About You

You are an experienced civil infrastructure qualified who enjoys working in a collaborative project environment and has a passion for delivering infrastructure that supports communities.





You possess strong technical capability combined with excellent project coordination, financial management and stakeholder engagement skills.

To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate:

- Previous experience delivering civil or transport infrastructure projects (ideally 6+ years)
- Previous experience delivering projects under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) (ideally 3+ years)
- Experience supporting projects from planning through construction and completion.
- Strong understanding of transport infrastructure construction methodologies.
- Experience administering construction contracts and managing contractor performance.
- Sound knowledge of project risk management, scheduling and project controls.
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering or higher (accredited under the Washington Accord or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia).

RPEQ would be highly regarded, but not essential. Previous experience in a similar role within QLD Government, or working client-side on QLD Government projects, would be highly advantageous.

- 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
