Proactively offers assistance to colleagues during peak workloads.
Displays commitment and flexibility, including a willingness to go beyond minimum requirements to ensure successful project outcomes.
Provides effective technical mentorship to graduates and early career engineers (approximately 3–4 years' experience).
Communicates clearly to explain engineering concepts, assumptions, and approaches to less experienced team members.
Effectively plans and organises work, including allocating tasks, monitoring progress, and managing priorities to meet project deadlines.
Follows up on delegated tasks and ensures overall quality, consistency, and timely delivery.
1. Technical Capability & Judgment
IEAust chartership (or equivalent) and RPEQ qualified.
Demonstrates a strong understanding of geotechnical fundamentals and engineering principles, applying sound engineering judgement rather than relying solely on codes and standards.
Detailed design capabilities:
- Geotechnical interpretation of site investigation data, including but not limited to CPTu, and derivation of design parameters
- Slope/W stability analysis, soil and rock slope stabilisation measures, ground anchor, micro-piles and facing design
- Shallow foundation
- Pile foundation for bridges – axial (Pell's and Rowe & Armitage methods), lateral (soil springs, Broms Method)
and pile settlement
- Earth Retaining Structure – gravity, RC L-shape, cantilever, anchored, MSE, etc.
- Ground improvement – soft soil (surcharge, wick drain, geosynthetic reinforcement, CMC, etc.)
- Temporary works – construction staging, piling/working platform, etc.
- Instrumentation and monitoring interpretation
- Detailed Design, Reporting and IFC drawings + Specification documentations
Produces high quality, technically sound work efficiently, with minimal need for rework.
Adapts approach to suit real world conditions and constructability constraints, identifying key technical risks and independently developing practical, fit for purpose solutions rather than relying on standard analyses.
Establishes clear methodologies for analysis, design, and delivery, without reliance on step by step instruction.
Produces explicit, well structured technical reports.
1. Site & Practical Experience
- Construction experience of the above technical design capabilities.
- Willing and able to undertake remote site work for periods between 1–3 weeks when required.
- Comfortable working on construction sites, including supervising works and certifying construction activities (Geotechnical Assessor role) as required.
Australian work rights are required for this position. Please note that the salary will be commensurate with experience.
Reporting to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer, this role will work collaboratively with national infrastructure engineering resources to create opportunities, contribute to team projects and deliver project work packages across multidisciplinary projects.
