About the Role

/n

As a Protection Relay Engineer, you will play a key role in the commissioning, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems across a variety of high‐voltage power system projects.

/n

Responsibilities

/n

/n

- Commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems and schemes.

/n

- Configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of IEC 61850 and GOOSE communications.

/n

- Testing and commissioning of HV substations, secondary systems, and primary plant.

/n

- Commissioning and maintenance of HV/LV electrical assets.

/n

- Testing and commissioning of power generation systems and power transformers.

/n

- Providing technical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and training to field technicians and junior engineers.

/n

- Preparing commissioning documentation, protection test plans, and detailed technical reports.

/n

- Supporting project delivery while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements.

Qualifications

/n

/n

- A Bachelor of Electrical Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia.

/n

- Minimum 3 years' experience in protection systems, testing, and commissioning.

/n

- Robust understanding of power system protection principles and relay technologies.

/n

- Experience with IEC 61850 and GOOSE messaging highly regarded.

/n

- Experience using the Omicron suite for protection and secondary systems testing.

/n

- Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, industry regulations, and electrical safety requirements.

/n

- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

/n

- A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

/n

- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Experience

/n

/n

- Power station or generation facility experience.

/n

- Experience working on utility, mining, or renewable energy projects.

/n

- Previous site commissioning and fault‐finding experience.

/n/n
