Overview
Our client is looking for an experienced WordPress & WooCommerce Developer (AI & Content Specialist) to improve and maintain three established ecommerce websites in the beekeeping and solar industries. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for custom-theme development, enhancing ecommerce UX/UI, and leveraging practical AI tools to optimize overall platform performance. If you have a proven track record of maintaining live, revenue-generating websites and strong custom coding skills, this opportunity is ideal for you.
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday 20 hours per week
- Either 9:00 am-1:00 pm or 12:00 pm-4:00 pm AEST
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain custom WordPress and WooCommerce themes.
- Implement approved designs using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and suitable open-source resources.
- Improve WooCommerce categories, navigation, product filtering, cart and checkout.
- Maintain accurate branding across shop pages, product pages, emails and checkout.
- Build responsive, accessible pages for desktop, tablet and mobile.
- Integrate and support Square payments, APIs, shipping, accounting and marketing services.
- Improve website speed, security, SEO, usability and conversion rates.
- Test all work before deployment and maintain backups and documentation.
- Create engaging website and social content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and eBay.
Requirements
Essential Skills:
- Minimum 2-5 years' WordPress and WooCommerce development experience.
- Strong PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript skills.
- Proven custom-theme or child-theme development experience.
- Experience with WooCommerce templates, hooks, actions and filters.
- Strong ecommerce UX/UI and conversion-optimisation knowledge.
- Experience integrating APIs, payment systems and third-party services.
- Ability to troubleshoot WordPress, plugin, performance and checkout problems.
- Experience with responsive design, technical SEO, security and version control.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly.
Mandatory AI Skills:
Advanced practical AI knowledge is required. The successful candidate must be able to use AI tools for:
- Website development, coding and debugging.
- WordPress and WooCommerce troubleshooting.
- API integration and workflow automation.
- UX/UI research and conversion improvement.
- Product content, SEO, graphics and social media.
- Testing and verifying AI-generated work before deployment.
Applicants must identify the AI platforms they use and provide examples of practical implementation. AI use does not replace the requirement for solid coding and WordPress knowledge.
Mandatory Portfolio and Commercial Experience:
Applicants must provide:
- A professional portfolio of completed ecommerce projects.
- Links to live, active ecommerce websites they personally developed or substantially improved.
- Examples of ecommerce websites currently processing orders and generating revenue.
- A clear explanation of their workflow from planning and development through testing, deployment and optimisation.
- Details of their personal contribution to each project.
- Measurable results where available, including improved sales, conversions, traffic or website performance.
- Examples showing how AI was incorporated into their development workflow.
Applications containing only Figma mock-ups, screenshots, unfinished websites or basic template installations will not be considered. Proven experience with live, revenue-generating ecommerce platforms is essential.
Highly Regarded:
- WooCommerce Square payment experience.
- Australia Post, BigPost, MachShip, Xero, eBay or EmailOctopus integrations.
- Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, video editing or AI image-generation skills.
- Experience with OpenCart, Shopify or BigCommerce.
- Knowledge of beekeeping, agricultural, hardware or solar products.
