The Opportunity

The Safety & Quality Officer is responsible for promoting, monitoring, and improving workplace health and safety, quality assurance, and compliance across all Commerce Building Services operations. The role works closely with supervisors, subcontractors, and management to ensure projects are completed safely, in accordance with legislation, insurer requirements, company standards, and industry best practice.

The Safety & Quality Officer will conduct audits, inspections, investigations, training, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive a strong safety culture and consistently high-quality repair outcomes across residential and commercial insurance building projects.

Main duties and responsibilities

Safety Management

- Promote a proactive safety culture across the business.

- Conduct site safety inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.

- Identify workplace hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

- Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses, including root cause analysis.





- Monitor compliance with Queensland WHS legislation, regulations, and company requirements.

- Maintain WHS records, registers, and reporting documentation.

- Coordinate and facilitate toolbox talks and safety communications.

Quality Assurance

- Conduct quality audits of completed and in-progress building works.

- Review works, compliance certificates, and documentation to ensure adherence to company and client standards.

- Identify quality issues and support corrective and preventative actions.

- Ensure subcontractor licences, insurances, inductions, and compliance documentation remain current.

About you

- Diploma or tertiary qualification in WHS, Building & Construction, or related field (desirable).

- 3+ years' experience in a WHS, Quality, Compliance, or Construction role.

- Solid knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and construction industry requirements.
