Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of the finance function and lead the day-to-day financial operations of the business.
This is a full-time, office-based role requiring attendance five days per week.
You will work closely with the Directors, Operations Manager and project teams to ensure the business has timely and accurate financial information while continuously improving systems, reporting, profitability and cash flow.
This role is not simply about producing monthly reports. It is about becoming a trusted commercial partner to the business—helping improve performance, supporting operational decision-making, identifying financial risks and opportunities, and building a finance team capable of supporting our continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Lead the month-end close process and ensure accurate management reporting.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage BAS, payroll tax, GST and statutory compliance.
- Coordinate external accountants, auditors and banking relationships.
- Assist with annual budgets and financial forecasting.
Commercial Performance
- Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor business profitability and identify margin improvement opportunities.
- Produce project and divisional profitability reporting.
- Analyse overheads and monitor performance against budgets.
- Provide commercial advice and financial insights to the Directors.
- Develop dashboards and KPIs that support informed decision-making.
Construction and Project Accounting
- Oversee Work in Progress reporting.
- Review project costs and profitability.
- Monitor progress claims, retentions and project cash flow.
- Work closely with project managers to improve commercial outcomes.
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition across projects.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor the finance team across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll.
- Allocate workloads and improve accountability.
- Develop finance procedures and standard operating processes.
- Build a high-performing finance team capable of supporting future business growth.
Systems and Continuous Improvement
- Continue developing our financial reporting.
- Improve financial dashboards and KPI reporting.
- Identify automation opportunities and streamline finance workflows.
- Drive continuous improvement across finance processes.
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially minded, proactive and enjoys being part of a growing business.
You will ideally have:
- CPA or CA qualification.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Management Accountant or Finance Manager role.
- Experience within the construction or building industry will be highly regarded.
- Experience in another project-based industry may also be considered.
- Robust knowledge of WIP, job costing, project accounting and cash flow management.
- Experience leading a small finance team.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Solid Excel skills and experience using Xero.
- Experience using job management software will be highly regarded.
- The ability to work from the office five days per week.

Within your first 12 months, you will have:
- Delivered reliable monthly management reports within 10 business days.
- Implemented accurate WIP and project profitability reporting.
- Developed rolling weekly cash flow forecasts.
- Strengthened financial controls and month-end processes.
- Improved reporting accuracy and business visibility.
- Reduced debtor days and improved working capital.
- Built a motivated, accountable and well-supported finance team.
- Worked closely with operations to improve profitability and support better decision-making.
- Established yourself as a trusted business partner to the leadership team.
What We Offer
- Salary of $120,000–$130,000 plus superannuation, based on experience.
