The Chance

Following a considered succession process, our client, a privately held, diversified real estate services group with an established market-leading position in one of regional Queensland's principal centres, has resolved to appoint its inaugural Chief Executive Officer. The group operates across commercial and residential sales, leasing and property management, with a substantial property management portfolio underpinning recurring earnings. The appointment will enable the owners to focus their attention on revenue generation, client leadership and the mentoring of their respective teams, entrusting the executive leadership of the business to its first Chief Executive Officer.

In deciding this appointment, the owners have created a clear mandate for the role – to establish a single point of executive accountability, an equitable recognition and review framework across all departments, sustainable workloads, and a clearly articulated strategic direction. The incoming Chief Executive will inherit a highly motivated and engaged workforce who are committed to building on the brand they’ve worked hard to establish.

Reporting to the Advisory Board, the Chief Executive Officer will assume full accountability for the leadership, financial performance and day-to-day operations of the group, exercising documented decision rights that distinguish clearly between executive authority and the matters reserved to the Board.

The Role

- Ownership of the consolidated profit and loss: budgeting, forecasting, cash management, trust account integrity and monthly performance reviews with each Executive Director;

- Leadership of the organisation's people agenda: succession, capability development, structured transfer of the founders' knowledge and client relationships, and the implementation of a contemporary performance, review and recognition framework;





- Consolidation of the operating model to achieve transparency around a single platform, a disciplined operating rhythm, and transparent performance reporting across the group;

- Stewardship of the group's brand standards and external network obligations at the operating level, within clearly documented delegations;

- Translation of the owners' strategic intent into executed growth, including expansion of the property management portfolio and the assessment of investment and development opportunities through Board governance;

- Representation of the business within its industry and community, as its most senior executive.

The Candidate

- Proven ownership of an integrated profit and loss, with strength in budgeting, forecasting and financial governance;

- Ideally but not necessarily, a sufficient command of real estate practice (or willingness to learn) including licensing, trust accounting and relevant legislation) to provide credible oversight of compliance;

- A record of implementing performance frameworks that endure: reviews conducted on schedule, recognition systems that are trusted, and reporting disciplines that leaders adopt;

- The judgement and maturity to lead an owner transition; welcoming challenge and accountability at Board level while exercising clear authority in the operations of the business;

- The presence and discretion to represent a prominent business within a closely connected regional market;

- Experience within real estate, professional services, financial services or franchised environments will be well regarded; sector background, however, is secondary to demonstrated leadership of people, performance and change.
