Your new role
As Draftsman, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of structural steel, architectural metalwork, façade and cladding, stair, handrail and balustrade projects from early coordination through to workshop release and project support. Working closely with clients, builders, engineers, architects, workshop management and internal project teams, you will complete site measures, prepare and manage shop drawings, raise and respond to RFIs, assist with variations, order materials and goods where required, and check the work of other drafting staff to ensure accuracy and compliance. The role requires a solid understanding of relevant Australian Standards,
ASI CC2 requirements and project specifications, with the ability to translate technical information into clear, buildable outcomes. By supporting tendering, variation pricing and project management, this position helps ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the high standard expected by clients.
What you'll need to succeed
- Minimum 5+ years of construction industry experience, ideally in structural steel or architectural metalwork
- Intermediate Tekla proficiency with the ability to produce accurate shop drawings
- Strong knowledge of drafting practices, site measuring and drawing coordination
- Good understanding of relevant Australian Standards and project specifications
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering and construction drawings
- Confident communicator across clients, builders, engineers, architects and workshop teams
- High attention to detail with the ability to check drawings and identify errors
- Practical understanding of fabrication, installation and construction sequencing
- Ability to support RFIs, variations, material ordering, tendering and project coordination
- Organised, reliable and able to manage multiple deadlines across active projects
- Team-focused approach with a commitment to safety, accuracy and quality outcomes
- Australian work rights are required for this position
- Trade-experienced candidates may be considered for a trainee drafting pathway with adjusted conditions
