At headspace Toowoomba, every conversation matters. For many young people, reaching out takes courage and meeting the right person at that moment can change everything.

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to young people aged 12–25. We’re here to make it as easy as possible for young people and their families to access support for challenges impacting wellbeing, with care that is welcoming, respectful and age‑appropriate.

We’re looking for an Intervention Worker who shares our values and wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people in the Toowoomba community.

The purpose of the Intervention Worker role is to effectively engage, screen, assess, refer, provide interventions and coordinate care for young people aged 12–25 who contact or are referred to headspace.

As one of the first points of contact, you’ll build positive, trusting relationships with young people and where appropriate, their families and friends,

helping reduce distress and guide them toward the right support.

You’ll bring strong assessment and clinical skills, including the ability to identify and respond to complex risk, develop action plans to mitigate risk, and work collaboratively with the clinical care team to support safe and effective outcomes.

This role is embedded within a multidisciplinary team, working alongside:

- Core clinical staff
- Contractor clinicians (GPs and Allied Health Practitioners)
- Consortium partners delivering mental health, physical and sexual health, vocational and educational supports
- Non‑clinical workers and community services

Together, you’ll deliver holistic, integrated, youth‑centred care that responds to each young person’s unique needs.

What you’ll be doing

- Be a welcoming, youth‑friendly first point of contact for young people seeking support
- Conduct comprehensive bio‑psycho‑social, risk and AOD assessments
- Deliver brief psychological interventions for mild to moderate mental health concerns
- Coordinate care and referrals tailored to individual needs
- Develop and implement action plans to manage and mitigate identified risks
- Present and discuss cases as part of regular clinical supervision and care team meetings
- Provide support through centre‑based, outreach and telehealth services
- Work closely with community and partner services to ensure integrated care
- Participate in community engagement and youth‑led initiatives
- Contribute to trauma‑informed, culturally aware, strengths‑based practice

About you

You’re compassionate, grounded and confident building rapport with young people.

You value early intervention, teamwork and reflective practice.

You’ll bring:

- Degree qualifications in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Mental Health Nursing
- Registration as a Mental Health Counsellor or Psychotherapist (ACA Level 3+ or equivalent), or postgraduate qualifications in a relevant clinical mental health field (e.g. Master of Family Therapy, Master of Addictive Behaviours)
- Strong skills in assessment, risk management and therapeutic intervention
- A trauma‑informed, youth‑centred approach
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- A current driver’s licence and Working With Children Check

About you

You’re compassionate, grounded and confident building rapport with young people. You value early intervention, teamwork and reflective practice.

We care about you

We know meaningful work is only sustainable when you’re supported to thrive.

What you’ll enjoy:

- Salary packaging up to $15,900
- 5 days paid wellness leave per year (pro‑rata)
- 12 weeks paid parental leave after 12 months
- Annual leave loading
- Professional clinical supervision
- Annual professional development budget
- Employee Assistance Program
- Reimbursement for required checks
- Employee referral bonuses up to $2,000
- Corporate fitness discounts and Rewards Gateway

We’d love to meet you!
