About the role
The Custodial Health Service (CHS) provides 24/7 health support to people held in Victorian police care or custody. The unit runs a 24/7 Custodial Health Advice Line (CHAL), a 24/7 clinic out of the Melbourne Custody Centre (MCC) and a 7 day a week mobile clinic, which services the greater metropolitan region. The unit includes nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, pharmacists and health information officers, all of whom work together to deliver healthcare in line with community standards. As one of the Nurse Managers, you will report directly to the Clinical Services Manager and your role will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the unit over a seven day rotating roster. You will be responsible for staff allocation, the coordination of hospital communications and logistics advice between the CHS, Victoria Police and external health services. Your role will give clinical support and oversight to nursing staff and you will work with other stakeholders to achieve safe clinical outcomes for people held in custody. Responsibilities
- Provide approachable leadership and management in the daily clinical and operational running of the unit and our custodial health advise line.
- Provide advice and oversight of complex clinical and or logistical cases within the custody environment.
- Coordinate nursing resources to meet a 24/7 roster that is equitable, efficient and meets operational service needs.
- Contribute to clinical governance through procedure development, quality improvement initiatives and key strategic risk management projects as required.
- Provide leadership, education and development opportunities for nursing staff.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
- AHPRA Division 1 Nursing Registration with full working rights.
- Demonstrated experience in leading a nursing and or multidisciplinary team.
- Proven experience in nursing assessment, emergency response and clinical oversight of nursing staff.
- Demonstrated experience in incident management and investigation with a no blame focus.
- Demonstrated experience in staff rostering
- Experience in clinical portfolio management.
- Experience with performance development and or education of staff is desirable.

- This position requires shift work as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).
