Social Worker – Community Support & Student Placements

St Merkorious Charity is dedicated to relieving hunger and poverty by providing access to healthy food, clothing, essential items, and pathways to long-term support. Through our new “Bring Hope with a Social Worker” project, we support people experiencing homelessness, chronic illness, disability, addiction, and domestic violence.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Social Worker to provide direct support to vulnerable clients while also coordinating and supervising student placements and volunteers within our community programs.

About the Role

You will deliver trauma-informed social work support, helping clients access emergency accommodation, financial assistance, and health or legal services. You will also coordinate and supervise social work students, ensuring safe, meaningful placement experiences that align with community needs and qualified standards.





Key Responsibilities

- Provide assessment, intervention, and case coordination for people with complex needs
- Support clients to access government and NGO services and improve wellbeing and independence
- Coordinate, supervise, and support student placements and volunteers
- Ensure safeguarding, confidentiality, and ethical practice
- Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and partner organisations
- Contribute to project reporting, evaluation, and funding opportunities

About You

- Minimum 3 years experience working with people experiencing homelessness or significant disadvantage
- Strong communication, organisation, and supervision skills
- Competent in community-based, trauma-informed practice
- Able to work flexibly and manage competing priorities
- Committed to social justice and improving outcomes for vulnerable communities
