Our client, Rai Family Trust, is seeking a proactive and experienced Production Horticulture Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations across its crop production areas. Our client operates 9 farms in regional NSW across Valery, Coffs harbour, Bonville, Boeambee and Bowraville. They grow premium Blueberry and Seasonal crops such as Cucumber too. Reporting to farm management, the successful candidate will supervise planting, pruning, harvesting, pest and disease control, and post-harvest handling, while ensuring all activities meet the required quality, safety and compliance standards.
The ideal candidate will bring a solid background in production horticulture, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and motivate a team within a fast-paced agricultural environment.
Duties
- Confirm that all crops scheduled for harvest have cleared the required withholding period before harvesting proceeds.
- Oversee the upkeep and serviceability of all specialised harvest equipment and machinery.
- Determine the appropriate harvest method for each crop, taking into account crop variety, soil moisture and seasonal conditions, to minimise mechanical damage.
- Liaise closely with the Farm Operations Manager and Horticulturist to coordinate production and harvest activities.
- Monitor harvest quality throughout the harvest period to minimise produce damage and loss.
- Identify unusual signs of plant disease or pest activity and report findings to management promptly.
- Oversee the protected transport and storage of agricultural chemicals in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and apply chemical treatments to control pests, weeds and plant diseases.
- Develop and implement post-harvest handling programs to preserve produce quality and shelf life.
- Plan and establish horticultural crops in line with production schedules.
- Coordinate and carry out emergency disease and pest control procedures at affected sites.
- Operate chemical application machinery and equipment safely and in accordance with label directions.
- Coordinate day-to-day work site activities across planting, growing, harvesting and packing operations.
- Undertake shed and nursery activities in support of crop production when required.
- Regulate and monitor crop growth and conditions to meet production and quality targets.
Mandatory Requirements
- AQF Certificate III or higher in a relevant field.
- Minimum 1 to 1.5 years of experience in a related field.
