The Communications Manager is responsible for leading QAIHC's strategic communications function to strengthen the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health sector, support health promotion and health literacy initiatives, and ensure QAIHC's advocacy, policy, programs and organisational priorities are communicated effectively to Members, communities, stakeholders and the broader public.

In this role, you will be required to:

Lead the planning, development and oversight of QAIHC’s communications messaging framework to ensure all communications are strategically aligned with the organisation’s vision, goals and policy priorities.

Ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, community control, cultural protocols and respectful storytelling are embedded in all communications planning, content development, publications, campaigns, media activity and stakeholder engagement.

Lead, manage and develop the Communications team, providing direction, support and performance oversight to ensure high-quality outputs across all channels.

Lead the production and publication of Sector Leader magazine, QAIHC's flagship Member and stakeholder publication. Manage all aspects of the publication process, including content planning, commissioning, writing, editing, stakeholder engagement, interviews, photography, design and printing. Ensure content reflects QAIHC's values and strategic priorities and is accurate, engaging, culturally appropriate,



and subject to appropriate editorial review and quality assurance prior to publication.

Develop and deliver communications strategies and plans that support QAIHC's objectives and strengthen engagement with Members, stakeholders and the broader community.

Lead the development and delivery of communications strategies and campaigns that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health promotion, health literacy and wellbeing outcomes, including the translation of complex health information into clear, culturally safe and accessible content for diverse audiences.

Position Pre-requisites

Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant experience.

Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, communities and community control, with the ability to develop culturally safe, respectful and effective communications that reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing, and build strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations.

Demonstrated experience leading and managing a communications function,



including strategic communications planning, stakeholder engagement, team leadership and delivery of communications projects and campaigns.

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex policy, strategic and technical information into explicit, accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences.

Demonstrated experience in media relations, issues and crisis communications, reputation management, and provision of strategic communications advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.

Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with executives, Members, government agencies, health professionals, community representatives and other key stakeholders.

Current unrestricted C Class Driver Licence and willingness to undergo a National Police Check and obtain and maintain a Blue Card if required
