Harmony is the largest gold producer by volume in South Africa and is a significant operator of gold tailings retreatment facilities. In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. In Australia, Harmony owns the high-grade CSA copper mine in Cobar, NSW and is constructing the Eva Copper Mine in Cloncurry, QLD.
The Eva Copper Mine is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony marking a major milestone in the company’s copper growth strategy and its long-term commitment to Northwest Queensland. The mine will have a minimum life of 15 years and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. Front-end engineering design is complete, and mine construction is expected to take up to 30 months with first production targeted for the second half of the 2028 calendar year.
Reporting to the ITC Project Manager, the Senior Network Engineer for the Eva Copper project will play a pivotal role in designing, integrating, and delivering robust IT and OT network infrastructure and systems. This role requires a strong focus on compliance with statutory requirements and adherence to the company's safety, health, and environmental standards and procedures.
Roster:
This role will be based onsite in Cloncurry which offers FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville or DIDO locally, with local candidates highly regarded. Our roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.
Responsibilities include:
- You will be the onsite resource responsible for managing and maintaining Eva Coppers' site internet services, Firewall appliances, WAN, LAN and wireless infrastructure.
- Undertake detailed design of Eva Copper construction and operations core network infrastructure.
- Provide technical advice on Corporate IT, Operational Technology and Process Control Networks.
- Be hands on, build and commissioning core network infrastructure within server and control rooms.
- Act as the Client representative to witness User Acceptance Testing and handover from EPC contractors
- Take ownership of operational infrastructure and systems following handover.
- Update technical documentation, As built drawings and network diagrams.
- Develop and maintain equipment maintenance plans
- Engage and interface with key stakeholders on the Project
- Adhere to the projects engineering, procurement, safety, quality and information management policies.
- Provide accurate and timely project reporting to the ICT Project Manager on the status of the project milestones
- Follow Group IT change management procedures, following ITIL and Agile work delivery methodologies.
- Maintain the IT Configuration Management Database (CMDB)
- Ability to work unsupervised and make informed decisions in a hazardous mining environment.
- Identify and report hazards and incidents and take responsibility for correcting unsafe acts and conditions.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Understand and adhere to statutory requirements and company procedures.
What you will bring to the role:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years' experience in system design and integration, or similar role.
- Extensive experience in the mining industry, both construction and operations.
- Proficient in detailed network design, specifically; Server and storage, core network, operational technology, process control, firewalls, end point security and disaster recovery.
- Proficient in network / system configuration, integration and management.
- Apply Cybersecurity standards and policies.
- All round project management skills including design management, tender preparation, assessment, and coordination through to handover.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Hands-on experience with network equipment and protocols such as Fortinet, Cisco, SDWAN, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, VPN,
- Advanced troubleshooting skills in a high-availability environment.
- Experienced in communications systems such as Private LTE, Microwave, Network security, SASE, SD-WAN, CCTV, Access Control and Process Control Networks.
- ITIL - (IT)
- Fortinet Certified Professional and/or Cisco CCNP qualifications.
