Canteen Assistant – Newport Public School
Position Information
Newport Public School is situated on the northern beaches with approximately 600 students and 35 staff.
The school Canteen is run by the Newport Parents & Citizens Association (P&C;) and provides a healthy service for the teachers and students at the school. We run on very small margins to provide healthy, affordable lunches and snacks on site, and any profit is put back into the school.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Canteen Assistant to join our busy and successful Team.
About the Role
You will assist in the day-to-day operations of the canteen and will perform a range of tasks in relation to its operation, including:
- the preparation of hot and cold food and snacks
- putting together lunch orders for 2 lunch breaks per day
- working with volunteers who help in the canteen
- making over the counter sales with children during break times
- cleaning
- supporting the Canteen Manager.
You will principally report to the Canteen Manager and the P&C; Executive team.
To be successful you will need to;
- be able to work Wednesday-Friday 8.30am-3.30pm
- have some experience and interest in food preparation
- enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
- understand food hygiene standards
- have positive communication skills
- be flexible
- live locally
- have a current drivers licence
- collaborate with the Canteen Manager
- enjoy working with volunteers and engage with the children.
Hours of work
The canteen is open for orders on school days which has two lunch breaks - Lunch 1: 11.25am to 12pm and Lunch 2: 2pm to 2.40pm.
Your hours of work would be approximately 8.30am to 3.30pm Wednesday to Friday, and you may be required to work extra hours on a Monday or Tuesday if necessary.
The canteen is closed during observed NSW public holidays, and NSW Government Public School holidays. You will be paid for 40 weeks a year when the School Canteen is open.
Your casual rates will be based on age and experience, and aligned with the 'Fast Food Industry Award'.
If you are successful in the role, you will be required to provide your proof of identity information and complete a CRIMTRAC declaration. As this is a child-related position, you will also be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance number as a condition of employment (if you do not already have this).
