About the Service

One Door Mental Health is establishing Distress Brief Support Short-Term Support Team (DBS STST) in Tamworth as a pilot program, designed as a trial short-term service to test and refine an early-intervention, recovery-oriented response to distress. The service is available to adults aged 18 years and over and aims to complement existing clinical and community services by providing timely, person-centred support during periods of heightened distress

About the role

We are seeking a lived experience-informed leader for a full-time fixed-term Program Specialist role based in Tamworth until 30 June 2027. Working closely with the Program Manager and the Lived Experience Team, you will provide leadership, coaching and practice support to Peer Practitioners, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, recovery-oriented services that align with Intentional Peer Support principles and lived experience practice. You will also support day-to-day service operations,



workforce development and stakeholder engagement to ensure consistent and person-centred support for people experiencing distress.

Key responsibilities

- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring and supervision to Peer Practitioners, ensuring high-quality peer work aligned with Intentional Peer Support and recovery-oriented practice.
- Support day-to-day service operations in partnership with the Program Manager, including service planning, coordination, reporting and continuous improvement activities.
- Lead reflective practice, team meetings and professional development initiatives to strengthen workforce capability and peer practice consistency.
- Deliver outreach-based support and assist people experiencing distress to build coping strategies, achieve goals and connect with appropriate supports.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community services, stakeholders and referral partners to support integrated, person-centred care.

What you’ll bring

- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by ODMH.
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, is desirable but not required.
- Experience in leadership roles would be highly desirable or leadership qualifications.
- Proven capability to coach, mentor and develop a team to achieve best quality service outcomes including experience in the provision of professional supervision.
- Demonstrated understanding of Lived Experience approaches including peer work, co-design and workforce development.
- Lived experience of distress or recovery, or experience caring for someone experiencing distress, is desirable but not required.
