BETTAbility is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to join our team in Tweed Heads NSW. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of people with disabilities. As a Disability Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals to achieve their goals, maintain their independence and participate fully in their communities. This position is fundamental to our mission of empowering people with disabilities to live fulfilling lives.
Key responsibilities
- Provide personalised support to clients with disabilities in daily living activities, including personal care, mobility assistance and domestic tasks
- Assist clients in accessing community activities, social events and recreational opportunities
- Support clients in developing life skills and building confidence in their chosen areas
- Maintain accurate and timely records of support provided and client progress
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, carers and other support team members
- Promote client dignity, respect and autonomy in all interactions
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for clients and report any hazards or concerns
- Respond to clients' needs with empathy and patience, adapting support to their individual requirements
- Follow organisational policies, procedures and relevant legislation regarding disability support
- Contribute to a positive team culture and support colleagues in delivering quality care
What we're looking for
- A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and commitment to their wellbeing
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals
- Patience, empathy and a non-judgmental approach to supporting clients
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Physical capability to assist clients with mobility and personal care tasks where required
- Reliability and punctuality, particularly important in a casual role
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Working with Children Check (or equivalent clearance) and National Police Clearance
- A valid driver's licence and access to reliable transport (desirable)
- Previous experience in disability support, aged care or community services (preferred but not essential; training will be provided for the right candidate)
