APG Workforce are seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer (EL2 equivalent) to support and enhance a life‑critical application used in national search and rescue operations based in ACT.
You will play a key role in supporting and developing NEXUS, a mission‑critical system used by the Rescue Coordination Centre Australia (RCCA) to coordinate maritime and aviation search and rescue incidents, as well as pollution response activities. Working within a highly skilled team, you will contribute to the ongoing development, maintenance, and optimisation of complex cloud‑based and back‑end systems.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain enterprise Java applications
- Work across AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway, SQS)
- Develop APIs (REST/SOAP)
- Design and manage Oracle databases
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Maven, Git)
- Support releases + system improvements
- Join a small, high‑performing team
Requirements
- 8+ years Java experience (Spring / Hibernate)
- Robust AWS + API development
- Solid Oracle / data modelling skills
- Experience in enterprise / gov environments
- Ability to obtain Baseline clearance

- Hybrid working arrangement with flexibility
- On-call support required (rare escalations, approx. once per year)
- One-page pitch required addressing selection criteria (SFIA Level 6)
