About the Role

The Casual Grounds and Maintenance Worker ensures the upkeep and enhancement of school grounds and facilities. Responsibilities include gardening, landscaping, cleaning, routine maintenance, and repairs.

The role also involves identifying and mitigating safety hazards, supporting event setups, and adhering to WHS protocols. Solid handy-person skills and efficient task management within the online maintenance system are required. Additional duties may be assigned by the Facilities, Property, and Asset Manager.

Work Pattern: This is a casual position with no firm advanced commitment to continuing and indefinite work and is not a casual roster‑based role. Instead, it is a true casual arrangement where you may be called upon to work only when required, such as to cover an incumbent's position or to support additional projects.

Key Duties

Grounds

- Perform various garden duties, including mowing, whipper snipping, hedging, general gardening, pruning, cutting, weeding, and spraying.

- Conduct a variety of cleaning tasks such as removing cobwebs, pressure washing roads and paths, sweeping, cleaning windows, and collecting and disposing of litter.

- Use and store all gardening supplies, chemicals, and consumables accurately and safely.

- Undertake landscaping duties as needed.

Maintenance

- Carry out light construction, demolition, removals,



repairs and maintenance on equipment, furniture, buildings, and facilities.

- Identify and complete maintenance and repair tasks promptly, escalating issues as necessary.

- Provide support in event setup, typically, but not confined to Junior and Senior assemblies, significant school calendar events, faculty events, music and drama events, parents’ evenings, sports days, offsite events and exams.

- Assist with daily maintenance tasks both planned and unplanned and manage tasks within the online maintenance system.

- Conduct necessary checks and inspections to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and well-maintained.

- Identify and eliminate safety hazards where possible.

- Operate tools and equipment safely in accordance with WHS practices.

- Utilise solid handy‑person skills to support the maintenance team with diverse challenges.

General

- Assist with school deliveries where applicable.

- Adhere to WH&S; protocols within the school.

- Perform ad hoc duties as directed by the Facilities, Property, and Asset Manager.

About You

Essential

- Proficient in general handyman and carpentry skills.

- Previous experience in a similar or equivalent role is highly desirable

- Holder of a current Working with Children Check (WWCC)

- Exhibit a proactive attitude and a strong work ethic.





- Demonstrate the ability to perform effectively in a physically demanding role.

- Demonstrated expertise in safe manual handling techniques.

- Excellent manual dexterity and balance for working on scaffolding, ladders, and similar structures.

- Strong commitment to maintaining safe work practices.

- A high level of integrity, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality.

- Effective time management skills.

Desirable

- Trade qualified in either plastering, concreting and bricklaying

- Demonstrated experience in plumbing, welding, landscaping, tiling

- Working from heights ticket

- Light Rigid (LR) or Medium Rigid (MR) Licence

- Elevating Work Platform (EWP) ticket
