Doherty Couplers
Queensland
We assemble high-quality excavator attachments — tilt couplers, and hydraulic equipment — at our Brisbane facility, supplying contractors and equipment dealers across Australia. We are part of an NZ-headquartered group with strong design engineering, and our Australian operation is growing fast.
We have a skilled, experienced floor team of 12, a Working Foreman and Senior Assembler providing technical leadership on the floor, and a dedicated scheduling function. What we need now is a Workshop Manager to lead the whole operation — someone who can bring genuine floor presence, build a quality culture, and give the team the leadership it deserves.
About Us
We assemble high-quality excavator attachments — tilt couplers, and hydraulic equipment — at our Brisbane facility, supplying contractors and equipment dealers across Australia. We are part of an NZ-headquartered group with strong design engineering, and our Australian operation is growing quick.
The Role
As Workshop Manager you will own the Brisbane assembly floor. That means the team, the quality, the safety, and the output. You will work hand-in-hand with the Production Planning Manager — they set the priority, you control the execution. You are the single point of accountability for what comes off this floor.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading, developing, and managing the assembly team — 12 people including a Working Foreman and Senior Assembler
- Owning QA — setting inspection standards, enforcing build quality, managing non-conformances, and signing off completed attachments before dispatch
- Running the floor to the production schedule — executing with precision, communicating constraints early
- Keeping the workshop safe, clean, organised, and operating to standard every day
- Interfacing with NZ design engineering on build specifications, quality standards, and engineering change orders
- Developing your team — cross-training, performance management, and building a high-standards culture
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years in a manufacturing or engineering workshop environment, with 3+ years in a supervisory or management role
- A trade background — mechanical, hydraulic, or fabrication — with genuine floor credibility
- Strong QA ownership — you have held quality accountable before and you take it personally
- A natural leader who builds trust with tradespeople through example, not just authority
- Organised and communicative — you run a tight floor and you keep the scheduler informed
- Experience in capital equipment, hydraulics, or heavy engineering is highly regarded
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies --- Toyota Production System / Toyota Way, Lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma --- is desirable but not essential
What's In It For You
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Company vehicle provided
- Senior leadership role with real authority
- A skilled, experienced team ready to perform
- Clear structure with strong scheduling support
- QA ownership — build quality into the culture from day one
- NZ design engineering as a technical resource
- Growing business with career development opportunity
- Brisbane-based, reliable operation
Applicants for this position must have Australian residency or a valid Australian work visa.Note: if we find oursuperstar, we may close this job advert earlier.
We are an equal opportunity employer and assess candidates on capability and leadership. If you can lead a floor and own quality, we want to hear from you.
