About the role

CMK Contractors is seeking a skilled and experienced Excavator Operator to join our team on a casual basis. This position is based in Mackay, QLD 4740, and offers flexibility with casual work arrangements. As an Excavator Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining excavation equipment on various construction projects, ensuring safe and efficient execution of earthmoving tasks. This role is fundamental to the successful completion of our construction operations and plays a vital part in delivering quality results for our clients.

Key responsibilities

- Operate excavators and other earthmoving equipment safely and efficiently on construction sites

- Perform pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance checks on all equipment

- Follow site safety protocols, risk management procedures and industry regulations at all times

- Communicate effectively with site supervisors, team members and other contractors to coordinate work activities

- Manage excavation tasks including digging, trenching, material handling and site preparation

- Monitor equipment performance and report any mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately

- Ensure all work is completed to specification and within project timelines

- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by the project

What we're looking for

- Current Heavy Equipment Operator licence or equivalent certification specific to excavator operation

- Proven experience operating excavators in construction environments, preferably 2+ years

- Robust understanding of construction site safety protocols and compliance requirements

- Ability to read and interpret site plans, drawings and technical specifications

- Excellent spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination

- Reliability and punctuality,

- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team

- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks when required

- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to different job sites within the Mackay region
